POETRY: IMMORALITY
Truth Seeping Through the Web of Lies
The Lark’s poetry competition

She used to think humans were angels They fell from the sky like little balloons “Bird droppings for good luck” That was how she thought of them
She believed each of them Giving her heart, body, and soul The best gifts she could ever imagine In a halo of her own kindness That she was always able to draw from herself
But she didn’t have to wait long Until things went wryly wrong Left on one corner, enforced by others Not knowing the real grounds Things bent in opposite directions
Now she weaves these threads trustily Transgressing multiple versions of the truth Like spider webs percolating through each view With invisible infiltration ink
As transparent As everyone has their rights At least their think they have Intercepted by buckets of lies And knives in their pockets
Ready to hit the surface unintentionally But underneath There is a coarse underbelly of abuse No reason, just to laugh at it Just to tell everyone else
That the villain-devil is kind When dealing with a battered angel Who barely spreads its wings, to tell the truth If only someone would like to listen
Thank you, Denise Larkin, for supporting my writing from the very beginning. It hasn’t gone unappreciated.
