Social media amazes me. I had no idea Twitter banned Trump around a year ago, as I recently joined Twitter and have been testing the waters slowly. This interesting blue bird is honestly not my cup of tea since it can be a little too hectic for me. My focus is on reading longer stories.
When I was playing games with a few of my mates, one of them randomly said, “Guess what? Trump is back!”
I had no idea what he meant. I asked him what he meant by that. He said, “Musk freed him”. I was fairly lost for a sec, but the penny finally dropped. He meant Trump was back on Twitter.
Then a few other friends messaged me on discord stating the same thing, saying Elon freed Trump. I rhetorically asked them so what! They giggled with funny emojis as if they were the devil’s advocate.
Apparently, after Musk acquired Twitter, he created an online poll answered by around 15 million people. So a majority of Twitter users voted for Trump's ban to be removed. I still didn’t know why Trump was banned from Twitter.
Here’s the indication of the poll.
So still, 48.2% of 15 Million Twitter citizens want Mr. Trump to be banned. I was curious why the former president of the United States was banned from a social media platform owned by a US company.
His story gave me a clue. In his old post, Donald Trump said:
“I predicted this would happen. We have been negotiating with various other sites and will have a big announcement soon while we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future. We will not be SILENCED!”
“Twitter is not about FREE SPEECH. They are all about promoting a Radical Left platform where some of the most vicious people in the world are allowed to speak freely.”
Then on my Twitter feed, I noticed that Trump had already built his own social media network. He seems to be happy to create his own tribe. He had no intention of fighting back with private social media organizations like Twitter and Facebook.
Based on so many tweets and prompts from my gaming friends, I got curious and checked the Twitter handle of Donald Trump. I assume it is the formal one, as he has around 59 million followers. Not as many as Elon Musk, though!
“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
Then my friends said the banning was related to the incident in Capitol in 2021. I heard about that incident in the news. It was terrible.
But interestingly, in his previous tweet on 7 January 2021, Trump said:
“I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order — respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!”
So in this tweet, Trump invites people to peace, so why did Twitter ban him then?
My friends said maybe the previous Twitter bosses didn’t believe him. Who knows. But obviously, Elon Musk believes him as he invites him to his new virtual home.
I have no interest in politics. I see Twitter as part of my gamification. But banning a former US president from an open network intrigued me.
Some tweets mention that Trump liked Elon Musk very much. But he does not want to return to Twitter as he has his own platform.
As I am a top writer on social media, I wanted to inform my readers of this interesting progress on Twitter.
However, I spend more of my time on YouTube and TikTok, which have more exciting content than Twitter for me. But I still enjoy some tweets, especially from writers on Medium.
What do you think of this exciting development in social media and politics?
Are you for or against banning people on Twitter?
I end my story with a humorous tweet from Elon Musk about Trump. It made me laugh, and I hope it adds some smiles to your face.
