Scrolling through missed notifications
It’s been a torturous process! In order to view missed notifications of reader comments, I spent all day yesterday paging back — after electing to view RESPONSES vs ALL notifications (claps, highlights, follows).
There’s a catch, alas. If you click on an item displayed — in order to read the comment and respond to it — and then click the back arrow, the system boots you back to page one, under which ALL notifications are displayed.
The back arrow will work in the ALL mode (most of the time), so you don’t lose your place (until you do); the downside is that you’ll be faced with myriad superfluous notifications amidst which are scattered a modest number of reader responses.
Faced with the dilemma as to choosing between unfeasible options, I struggled to devise a workable strategy. I ended up using the RESPONSES option but made sure not to click on listed items. Instead, I went directly to the story the reader commented on and replied from there.
I managed to scroll back to March 29, which wasn’t far enough, as evidenced by the presence of responses I hadn’t replied to — meaning, I had not been viewing notifications via the bell at that time, thereby missing the many that didn’t get sent to email as they should have been.
I don’t know when it was that I unwisely stopped relying on the bell in favor of email, but I fear it may have been several weeks prior to where I left off scrolling back yesterday, meaning, prior to March 29th.
It occurs to me that as concerns those to whom I belatedly responded, it’s too little too late. Indeed, I’ve likely annoyed many regulars to whom I made apologiessssssss — for which, please accept one more.
Speaking from a self-centered perspective, I wanted to read all the messages I missed. The bright side of the grueling lookback is that I was gratified by the wonderful feedback I’d been unknowingly accruing these past months.
Cheers to all. LIZ
