Tracks in the Sand

Following trails on the beach

I was walking down the beach towards the water. No soul was to be seen. It was just me. Only I was out and about. It seemed like nobody was active on this Monday morning.

But I was wrong.

There was a lot more life out on the beach and in the water than I anticipated at first.

As I walked toward the edge of the water I started to see more of it. The life around the lake.

There were tracks of birds. Humans. Other animals.

And those really weird-looking lines.

I couldn’t assign them to anyone. No bird. No land mammal. No animal?

Oh no, that’s wrong.

Finally, I spotted the creator of those distinct lines in the sand.

Clams.

Clams walking through the sand in the water are creating these very interesting-looking lines at the bottom of the lake. Or at least where the water level is very shallow.

And look at this one. It reminds me of the number 2000 and the celebration of a millennial.

Meanwhile, a clam is slowly moving past one sand corn after the other…

This is life at the bottom. The bottom of the ocean. Or a lake.

Whatever it is. It’s fascinating.

Like my feet in the sand. And that perfectly looking circle in the water. Was it a fish? Or just a drop of water falling into the lake. I don’t know. And I might never find out. But it looks pretty. Those curly circles.

This was it.

My selection of traces in the sand.

On the beach and in the water.
