Top Online Conferences for Developers and Designers to Attend
Get inspired, recharged & motivated with these mostly free on-demand talks from big companies.

Before the pandemic, when life felt normal in Silicon Valley, developer conferences were as popular as Sunday markets. These long-day events with tasty food, networking, and free swag were really fun actually.
I remember how I went to Samsung's Bixby Workshop in San Francisco once and spent the entire day creating an AI assistant and… eating. In the afternoon, I enjoyed a cool presentation by Adam Cheyer, the creator of Siri, Bixby, Viv Labs, Change.org, and Sentient. In the end, everyone presented their personal projects (ours was an AI assistant that could tell your horoscope for the day) and my team won a tablet. Ah, good old times.
Anyway, those times are gone now. It seems like all developer conferences became online events overnight. On a plus side, a lot of them started to offer free tickets and on-demand videos available for everyone.
Apart from that, there are still a lot of benefits of attending a developer conference:
- Get inspired
- Broaden your horizons
- Learn something new
- Meet new people
- Reconnect with others
- Collect stickers and other swag (mostly digital nowadays)
- Enhance your career development
- Have fun! 🤩
Working remotely can feel lonely sometimes. You keep learning new stuff, reading the news, working on new projects... but, honestly, who cares? When you have a bunch of like-minded people around you — even if only on a screen — life feels normal again.
WWDC21 — Apple Developer conference
When: June 7- June 11, 2021 (recorded sessions are available online)

The last Apple Worldwide Developers Conference was from June 7 to June 11, 2021. It was an online-only event (duh) but it was such a joy to watch. Really. As someone who has to attend Claris Engage Conferences as well (and Claris is a company that belongs to Apple), I can clearly see the difference. Apple adapted quickly to an online format and created a fun and engaging schedule, free for all developers. The best part? You can still access over 200 recorded sessions from that event!

Tableau Conference #Data21
When: November 9–11, 2021 9am–3pm PST (Americas). Other dates and times are also available on their official website (see the link below)

I already talked about how data visualization is huge right now in another article. However, you don’t have to be a developer at all to break into this field thanks to the tools like Tableau or Power BI. I might be biased because I’m a certified Tableau developer and spent a year or so working with that platform… but I would strongly encourage you to give Tableau a chance if you are interested in data viz or considering changing careers.

This event is definitely not free, but worth your time if you are into web design. Fall Summit is an online web design conference with an intense focus on digital design, UX, content, and code.
