ESSAY | 30-DAY WRITING CHALLENGE (DAY 3) | REFRESH THE SOUL
Today’s Grateful Moments
A day filled with an abundance of joy
Gratitude has been a part of my spiritual practices for decades now and also a part of my mental health upkeep. I keep a daily gratitude journal where I write down everything I have been grateful for that day. Sometimes I will begin it in the morning with things like ‘I am grateful to be alive today’ because that has not always been my reality, or with things like ‘I am grateful to the farmers and distributors of the coffee I am now enjoying’ because I believe it is important to be thankful for those who work hard to provide me with momentary indulgences. Occasionally, I will jot down quick, grateful moments as they happen throughout the day. However, I never let a night slip by without completing my daily gratitude moments.
After such an abundant day filled with gratitude, I will share today’s grateful moments with you.
- My two nieces spent time with me and shared in some of my favorite activities. I wrote all about that tonight in this essay — A Sleepover.
- The loving conversation I had with my sister tonight.
- Spending a moment of Zen with Mr. Shugs McGroo (my cat) after my long day away from him.
- The peace and solitude in the house while my spouse is away for two weeks.
- The lessening of vertigo symptoms that have been plaguing me.
- The other editors over at Know Thyself Heal Thyself who picked up the slack while I enjoyed time with my nieces.
- The funny, quirky message my cousin left me on Messenger that only enforces why he and I meld so well with one another.
- The great comment The Wordsmith™🏳️🌈🇺🇸 left on my post about Neil Diamond’s song because he knows and understands why this song means so much to me — it holds similar meaning for him too.
- This soothing cup of peppermint tea that I am sipping as I write this.
- The overwhelming love I feel from Spirit as I am reminded to be grateful for everything I am given.
Today has been one of the most abundant days I’ve had in a while. Usually, I am lucky to write down five grateful moments, but today, I could have gone on and on — and I have in my paper journal. However, these ten are the ones I feel most comfortable sharing with readers here on Medium.
Still, I hope you’ve enjoyed reading some of my gratitude moments today. If you wish, share some of yours with me in the comments!
