Today is a New Day

How to Create a Sense of Fun and Delight

Yesterday I made the mistake of letting some dread and overwhelm seep into my day. It was still a productive day of writing and creating. However, I let the feeling of a new year wash over me like a giant to-do list. On my 100-day journey exploring abundance, I believe that finding an overflow of positivity on our path will help us move forward.

I believe that there is sometimes a weight that hangs over us. It comes out during times like the beginning of the year. We feel as if we must go into hyperdrive to accomplish more than we ever have.

The great news is, we can make a choice. We can choose to stop that train from running us over. One thing that I learned recently in an online course is to say “delete” out loud.

When you think about something that you do not want to come true, stop, and change it.

I tried this out several times yesterday. It worked! I have faith that we can create whatever we desire in this world, as long as we care to curate a positive space for it.

Here are three ways that I began to turn my day around yesterday:

  1. Stop and Delete A Thought Before it Takes Root:

Throughout the day, I found myself worrying about some upcoming client work I needed to complete. I was not sure how to go about it. As I felt myself slipping into negativity, I chose to delete those thoughts by changing them immediately into the outcome I would prefer.

2. Think of Ways to Make the Day Fun:

Even if it is the end of a stressful or overwhelming day, think of how you can insert a fun activity or something you can enjoy into the next day. For example, I decided to make myself an asparagus quiche today and enjoy it with some tea. I am the only one in my house that loves quiche, and I choose to honor that wish today. I’ll make it fun by getting out my best dishes.

3. Use a Wishing Candle:

In my bathroom, I have a scented candle. I light this candle every morning as I get ready for the day and every evening when I prepare for sleep. It provides a warm cosy light. I also make wishes on that candle twice a day. Why should we only wish on our birthdays? I always pray for health and happiness for others as well as myself.

This candle helps me focus twice a day on the present moment and my intentions for the day.

My prayer and my intention for you today is for you to stop yourself when you are overwhelmed. What are the thoughts you are thinking? What are the words you are using? Can you pause and reflect? How can you change them at that moment?

Day #57: How can you turn your day around when you feel negativity or overwhelm taking hold?

I am tagging some amazing fellow writers on this journey. They joined me on my 100-day spiritual journey and it is an honor to have them here on this journey.
