Today I Celebrate Myself — 250 Articles And No End In Sight
When you reach an intermediate goal, you should celebrate it. It doesn’t matter whether others are happy with you or not, because nobody can take the milestone away from you.
When I sat down today to write a new article, I accidentally decided to count the articles I have written so far. If I hadn’t done that, I would have missed an absolute high.
In fact, I came up with 249 articles. This meant that the article I was about to write would be number 250.
When I published my first article on Medium in February 2019, I dreamed of writing a huge mountain of stories. I was looking forward to a distant day when I could look back and marvel at all the work I had already done.
Today is one such day. I look back and can hardly believe how much time has passed and what I have learned and experienced since I published this first article.
My journey on Medium was not consistent from the beginning. At first, I just tried some things around and tested different topics. I was far from posting regularly.
Later in the year, there were months when I had written three or four stories. I’ve only been taking my work here seriously since January 2020, but it took me until March to finally be able to publish daily.
Why did I take so much time to work really seriously on Medium? Looking back, I have to realize that I should have done more much earlier.
But I make my living writing books. So for a long time, Medium was not a priority for me. When I looked at what I was earning with my books every month and compared that with the few dollars I made with my articles here, it was all too understandable.
But this attitude soon changed. The better I got to know Medium and the community, the more aware I became of the potential I was giving away if I didn’t get fully involved.
The first month in which I published every day was March. At the same time, it was the first month in which I earned over 100 dollars. If I could do that, then a lot more was possible.
Also, in March, I came across the new publication Illumination. Since I am an author and editor there, I have not published in any other publication.
In April, I was able to break the 100 dollar mark again. The percentage of authors who earned over 100 dollars was lower in April than ever before. So I was doubly glad to have made it.
May did not look that promising until about mid-May. But from the second half of the month on, my numbers suddenly started to improve. It has been clear for a few days now that I will make the 100 dollars for the third month in a row in May.
All this went through my mind when I realized today that I was about to write my 250th article.
Suddenly I felt the need to write about it. The article I actually wanted to write, I will write tomorrow. Today I wanted to let you know that I have reached a milestone that makes me proud and motivates me to keep on giving everything.
One day I will have written 1000 articles. I can hardly wait to look back then. I wonder what will happen until then? What will I have learned? How will I see the world then?
I look forward to the answers that only time can bring.
