To Congratulate Someone Who Does Better Than You
My perspective of a congratulatory message
It happens all the time in school, in business, or life. Someone gets the grades, but not you. Someone gets the promotion, but not you. Someone gets married, but not you. Someone makes a profit, but not you.
Could you identify yourself in such a situation?
Do you ever get a little jealous of the winner? Maybe not you, because you did not have the expectation, or did you?
We often find ourselves in situations where we wish we were the one, but it is not our turn to receive the prize. We can put in the effort to better ourselves, but there are limitations due to our abilities or resources.
To congratulate someone who does better conveys that we wish them well. What we need to do is focus on the achievement and not make comparisons to ourselves. Comparing would make us feel miserable.
Express our happiness for them. Use positive language and avoid negative messages in our congratulations that may derail our expressions of genuine congratulations.
Humility is paramount when congratulating someone who has achieved more success. Life is often filled with many unfair advantages, and if we are petty, it makes an enemy of ourselves with the person we wish to congratulate.
Remember, offering sincere congratulations to someone who has done better than you is a sign of maturity, respect, and goodwill. It can strengthen your relationship with that person and contribute to a positive and supportive social dynamic.
Do the part of someone showing sincerity, and lots of it, when congratulating someone.
