Summary

To achieve wealth and success, one must be willing to sacrifice immediate pleasures, such as entertainment, free weekends, complacency, peace of mind, and impulsive spending, in favor of long-term gains.

Abstract

The path to riches and fame is fraught with sacrifices that many are not willing to make. The article emphasizes that to attain a more affluent future, individuals must forgo the allure of constant entertainment, dedicate weekends to productive work, maintain a mindset of continuous learning, accept a certain level of restlessness, and practice delayed gratification by distinguishing between needs and wants. Success requires a disciplined approach, resilience, and passion, often at the expense of immediate comfort and gratification.

Opinions

  • The pursuit of wealth demands prioritizing personal goals over social engagements and peer pressure.
  • The concept of weekends as leisure time must be redefined to advance personal ambitions.
  • Complacency, especially after achieving a stable job or education, is an obstacle to growth and success.
  • A peaceful state of mind may be incompatible with the drive needed to achieve extraordinary success; restlessness can be a catalyst for progress.
  • Impulsive purchases should be avoided in favor of investments that contribute to long-term success.
  • The journey to wealth is inherently challenging and requires a balance of discipline, resilience, passion, and a bit of luck.

To Be Rich, You Will Have to Sacrifice 5 Things. Are You Ready?

Dream Big. Act Bigger.

Who doesn’t want to be rich and famous?

Everyone wants a bigger house, a luxury car, exotic holidays, and never-ending fun. However, not many can get what they dream of. A lot depends on luck but luck does favour the ones who put in effort.

You will agree without any doubt that becoming rich and successful is hard. But that doesn’t mean, you cannot attempt.

There are 5 things you will have to sacrifice now to have a better life in the future.

1. Limited Entertainment

There are unlimited ways you can entertain yourselves. There are heaps of streaming channels, bars, pubs, sporting events, movies, and parties all vying for your attention. It has become increasingly difficult to resist the temptations of these entertainment options.

If you are serious about getting rich and successful, you will have to set the priorities right.

Many times, you will have to say “no” to your friend’s call who will urge you to join the party. You must be strong enough to withstand emotional blackmail and stay focused on your goals.

2. Weekends

You will have to forget the difference between a weekday and a weekend. In fact, weekends would be the only time when you will be able to do some serious work.

To achieve better weekends in the future, you will have to sacrifice your weekends now.

You will have to switch the emotions associated with TGIF. TGIF not because you could party like there is no tomorrow, but TGIF, you could now work during the weekend towards your personal goals.

3. Complacency

Constant learning should not be optional. You will have to keep learning every single day until you are successful.

Getting a college degree is only the first step not the last. You may have gone to the best college and achieved a degree that may help you in getting a stable job. But if you start feeling content with a stable job, you will not be able to grow. The problem with stability is that you will get stagnant too.

Keep pushing yourself to go beyond what your corporate development plan suggests you should do.

4. Peace

You cannot expect to sleep, and keep a calm mind if you want to be successful. You will have to be restless.

If you are thinking too much about sleep, rest, food, etc, you are not on the right track.

5. Impulsive Purchases

You should learn about Delayed Gratification.

Delayed Gratification is the resistance to the temptation of immediate pleasure in the hope of obtaining a valuable and long-lasting reward in the long-term.

An expensive purse or a branded pair of shoes could bring you momentary happiness, but restricting yourself from making that impulsive purchase could leave you an option to invest the money elsewhere.

You will have to be clear about your “needs” vs your “wants”. You will have to refrain from buying things you don’t “need”.

This list may sound too hard but that is the point. Achieving something extraordinary will require discipline, resilience, and passion with a dash of luck.

Wish you all the best!
