To Achieve Justice, We Must Fight Injustice

Spiritual Secret#24

Dear Spiritual Souls,

It’s that time of the week when we connect spiritually.

Trending Tuesday it is!

That reminds me to share the latest trend about roast/prank videos.

With changing times, the method of bullying has changed. From physical to psychological — online bullying has transformed.

Bullying has changed its form from obvious ways to subtler ones. People have started to criticize, make fun of, insult each other openly, and sit behind digital media curtains. Very conveniently, people judge and troll one another for all the wrong reasons.

If I am having a bad hair day, someone will make a prank video of my appearance. If I slip in the snow and break my bone, someone will create humor from my painful condition.

But, it makes me wonder — How can someone’s pain become another person’s gain?

We all have been reading this quote, but I realized its gravity recently when I read a heart-wrenching story by Suraj. He talked about how the roast video culture is booming. It works on the same principle — extract pleasure from another person’s pain. And online streaming platforms are doing nothing to curb that content.

Initially, I thought everything was scripted, but the reality was different. Not everything. There are plenty of bloggers, YouTubers, and online media content creators using innocent people’s pain to earn money.

My heart went out when I read his story — The Dark Side of Roast Videos That YouTube Doesn’t Want To Show You. Since then, I had been thinking about my role in spreading peace and harmony as a spiritual person.

We all (have to) watch roast videos on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media, either consciously or unconsciously. If not on purpose, these kinds of videos keep popping up on our feeds. Sometimes, it becomes a compulsion to watch as you can’t skip the ad or proceed further without watching.

How can we justify a comedy or content whose flavor is terrible!

We can’t.

From a spiritual perspective, it’s easy. We can stop watching those videos because we believe that it affects the serenity of our minds. What we see, we become! This thought empowers the spiritual souls.

From a general perspective, watching this type of content means promoting injustice. So, we need to stop watching such content at any cost. This is what I believe and vow to do as a first step.

Second of all, we can always choose to report such videos. Also, let’s stop forwarding any negative content that might hurt anyone’s sentiments. If someone is experiencing stress or pain through our circulated clip/video, we are responsible for that Karma. What we give is what we get!

Though we have no control over that slapstick comedy content production or marketing, we do have control over our response to that negativity.

Maybe the online bullies are not aware of their mistakes. Maybe they are blinded by greed. Maybe they’re paid to do so. Maybe the online streaming giants are supporting this kind of content.

Whatever the reason may be for this roast video culture. We must focus on our responsibility towards society.

There are plenty of innocent, vulnerable souls out there in the world who are battling depression, anxiety, and stress as a consequence of someone’s ill behavior.

I would appreciate it if you could throw some light on the pressing issue of online bullying.

What do you think about the role of spirituality in dealing with those who seek pleasure in others’ pain?

Quote for the Week:

“Peace does not mean to just stop wars but also to stop oppression and injustice.” ~ Tawakkol Karman

On that note, I’ll seek your permission to leave.

Till then, keep exploring and sharing the world of spirituality.

Loads of hugs and love!
