Summary

The poem reflects on the beauty of nature and contrasts it with humanity's disconnection from and failure to appreciate and reciprocate the love present in the natural world, ultimately painting a picture of mankind as being surrounded by kindness yet not embodying it.

Abstract

The narrative unfolds as the speaker wanders, comparing themselves to a solitary cloud, observing the serene dance of nature. From the wildflowers swaying by the lake to the stars twinkling in the night sky and the playful waves teasing the shore, the speaker is enveloped by the romance of nature. Despite this, there is a poignant realization that humans, engulfed by nature's love, often overlook it, becoming more invested in vices than in kindness. The poem suggests that while mankind has the potential for greatness, it is yet to fully embrace true kindness, remaining captivated by less noble pursuits.

Mankind Is Everything, but a Kind Man

A spiritual poem

I wandered alone, Like a cloud in the sky. I floated in the air, Over the high hills and mountains, When I saw a wildflower, Beside the lake, In the woods, Hiding beneath the trees, Dancing and swaying merrily along with the breeze.

Like the shining stars in the night sky, I twinkled, In the pale moonlight. When I peeped down, I saw the waves of the sea glitter. They’re twirling and spinning. They’re teasing the shore, By kissing and running away.

Nature’s romance amazes me. It makes me wonder. How much love we have, around us, Engulfing our lives. Yet, we fail to notice. Yet we fail to love. The only dance we’re interested in is of the vices. That has made mankind, Everything but a kind man.
