Tips On How to Plan a Vacation on a Budget

Flamingo Beach: Aruba 2021

My husband and I like to travel, but we travel responsibly. He is more of a planner about our lifestyle and finances. I’m more of a person who is just down to go away ASAP but not him, he said we need to make sure that we book this vacation and pay it off before we go anywhere asap. Pay it off within a month to travel in peace. He has a valid point and being responsible is one of the traits I love about him the most. Before leaving on vacation, I like my home cleaned. I’ll clean a few days before I leave so I come home to a clean home, and it reduces so much stress.

We went to Aruba at the beginning of November, and I started writing this article on the beach, I felt so focused and at peace while writing. I put my earbuds on and got in the zone. November was the perfect month to travel because we paid off the vacation and budgeted our spending before going. The vacation was booked in August, and my husband paid it off by September. I told him I would take care of the spending when we get there but being that he paid off the all-inclusive resort ahead of time both he and I were able to chip in for dinner, excursions, and any extra activities we did while there.

Aruba is a place to relax…

If you love a nice beach and a few drinks foods as we do, then you will like Aruba. They have a lot of fun water activities and good hospitality. We stayed at the RIU Palace, and it was an all-inclusive resort with five restaurants, so we didn’t even have to spend a lot of money and if we did, it was by choice because I also like to try restaurants outside of the resort area. Doing this will not only help you only experience other places but also get an idea of their price points.

I pack my travel-size essentials to make room for other things in my suitcase. Deciding what to take can be difficult, but if you are in a swimsuit all day pack four of them for all the days and then five nighttime outfits and three-day outfits. I always have to take my socks, sneakers, and slippers with me because I’m all about comfort. I take one pair of heels because I really may or may not wear them.

As women , it’s necessary for us to take our whole world with us in our luggage, but boy did I learn my lesson. You don’t need to take everything if you're only going away for four to five days. When packing clothes think about the destination you’re going to and what you will be doing while there. Is it a beach? or will you be site seeing more. We girls have to buy outfits before going anywhere, but honestly, there’s a way to pack smart and still look great.

1.) Swimwear 5 suits

2.) Underwear's 8–9 if it’s 5 days because you have to bathe to get ready for dinner

3.) No bras yea I said it! I hate wearing them, and that’s my personal opinion, “let them hang” no one knows who you are on vacation so who cares.

4.) Lose comfortable flowy dresses and shirts.

5.) Travel-size essentials, I made the mistake of putting a big hair spray bottle in my luggage and sunblock, and security threw it all out.

One year we take a family vacation with our kids, and the next year we take one with each other. Planning has worked out for us financially.

Before going on vacation…

  • Make reservations to restaurants before going on vacation and look at the menu.

Make an itinerary, but you don’t have to stick to it. This is just a way to have a plan on what you will do. LLcooltrips helped us with ours. He personalizes travel itineraries. Get paired with 1-on-1 expert trip planner who gathers all the latest information on your destination and witness your dream vacation come to fruition. I reserved Flamingo beach two months before going. It was 250$ total for both of us but it was so worth it because it was my favorite beach on the island. It was so relaxing.

  • If you have kids pack their clothes, and let the sitter know all the details like school drop-off times and appointments ahead of time.

When you’re on the plane take a book and download shows and movies to your phone or computer before going anywhere. Get snacks at the airport so you don’t have to pay more on the plane. I wear a fanny pack. Less is more, and I don’t like carrying too much while traveling. If you're going away for only three days, put everything in a carry-on suitcase. If it’s for four days or more save yourself the headache and put everything in a medium to a big suitcase and check it in, also take a carry-on and a backpack to put snacks and more essentials.

My husband and I have been to Greece, Cabo, Puerto Rico, Florida and now Aruba. We plan on visiting more places. If you're interested in seeing more pics from our vacations, follow me on Instagram Her_Chance_ (@ashley_m_carino) • Instagram photos and videos or comment below and I can share more.
