Tips on Gaining Business Wisdom…From Ask Lewis
Tracking the roots of my success
Much of my teaching and writing concerning business, investing, and wealth creation, is drawn from “Make Choices, Not Excuse” a series of classes, workshops, and seminars I began teaching in 1985 after I successfully arose from devastating personal and business challenges.
I was mentored through these physical and mental health challenges by several successful business people, and after applying NLP, and what they offered, I began sharing it all.
Now, I write regularly at LewisCoaches.Medium.com and at AskLewis.Substack.com. I enjoy writing for that extraordinary businessperson who has a passion for ideas.
I enjoy learning by reading short content–rich paragraphs I can quickly apply in my life. Over five decades, I have accumulated thousands of these paragraphs.
Many of my Medium stories are only 3–4 paragraphs. What they all have in common is that I have applied them and now share with you to guide and help you explore how the defining and clarification of your intention and your business vision may lead to great financial success as well as a life built on serving others through business.
Clarity of Intention
Clarity of intention is what gives meaning to life. With clarity of intention, you have the key to the door through the illusion of time and space. Here you may define your vision or life mission and bring it to fruition.
At the very moment you are ready, willing, and able to act on this intention, it comes into being spontaneously without discipline or willpower. I like to describe this as “actualized intention.” Whatever you can conceive of and which is a natural aspect of what it means to be human will happen through actualized intention.
All that is required of you is that this intention manifests in every second of your being through thought, word, and deed. The ideas in this book are not new. They are common and familiar concepts restated sans unnecessary cultural baggage.
This book is a simple stew of Eastern and Western business wisdom drawn from many traditions, and my own experiences as a student and teacher for over fifty years — all injected into the new digitized reality that we live in today.
If you are seeking absolute or universal “Truth” you have come to the wrong place. The thread that weaves through the chapters of this book is the idea that there is no one “right “way to conduct a business.
Still, each person can choose to construct a successful business by exploring the interaction of people, places, and things and making choices that make the world a better place to live.
If a business person can remain detached from these people, places, and things while conducting business through love and compassion they will have entered into a new realm of business thinking. This approach transcends traditional religion. It is a “Conscious” spiritually based -approach to business.”
It is my intention in organizing my talks into this book to present ideas and practices that will help you magnify what is already spiritual within you. In addition, I want to help you bring what is authentically spiritual, but of which you may have been previously unaware, into your business practices.
As this important spiritual component is magnified and embraced you will have this thread of stories to assist you in creating practical order and harmony in the messy chaos that often passes for a normal business environment.
As I mention often throughout my work this approach to business is not meant to be a religious perspective on anything nor an attempt to tell you what your spiritual beliefs ought to be. It is focused on increasing profit while serving others.
This approach to business can enrich your authentic connection to a formal faith. No matter what your beliefs are, the ideas and practices presented here can be invaluable in helping you to create both joy and a grounded sense of spirituality in your life.
The Takeaway
In a life defined by a hunger for spiritual knowledge as well as business success, I have spent the last fifty-five years seeking out and studying with many great spiritually-based business mentors.
With their support and guidance, I have explored the writings and lives of important and influential, visionary business leaders and philanthropists, including my father Harold Harrison, and many other more famous and influential individuals including Og Mandino, Andrew Carnegie, Napoleon Hill, Dale Carnegie, Ted Turner, George Soros, Chuck Feeney, Oprah Winfrey and others.
I even had the opportunity to meet Elon Musk when he was just beginning his career. Through the ideas and practices of these visionaries, I have organized the essence of my spiritually-based business thinking.
Many different teachers and mentors have contributed to my exploration, research, introspection, studies, and personal development. The support, ideas, writings, lifestyles, and teachings of these men and women, when studied with self-reflection, and humility have helped me create a fulfilling life of joy, spiritual intention, emotional balance, great friendships, love, kindness, compassion, business success and the greater fulfilment of my potential.
