Summary

The author of the article expresses dissatisfaction with Tim Denning's claim that most people can make $100,000 in a year, calling it unrealistic and misleading.

Abstract

The article criticizes an email pitch by Tim Denning and Todd Brison for their course titled "The Ultimate Guide to Online Income Streams." The pitch claims that most people are only 12 months away from making 100,000, which the author finds unrealistic and misleading. The author argues that the median wage in the US is 54,132 per year, and half of the workers make less than that. The author also points out that the world population is 8 billion, and the average income is $13,000 per year, making Tim Denning's claim even more unrealistic. The author suggests that if people want to learn how to make money online, they should send money to help the author buy a new cape and get nothing in return, as it teaches the most important lesson of making money online: convincing people to give you money.

Tim Denning Is Obviously Wrong About Making $100,000 in One Year

Hoping for a world where we stop selling unrealistic dreams to each other

Not Tim Denning by Christopher Campbell on Unsplash

These are the first lines of an email sent by Tim Denning (on Oct 13):

“Some of you call me a liar for what I’m about to say
but by the time I’m through explaining myself, I bet you’ll change your mind.
I believe most people are only 12 months away from $100,000 in the bank.”

(bolding as in email — not mine)

The email is a pitch for a course titled “The Ultimate Guide to Online Income Streams,” co-hosted by Tim Denning and his associate Todd Brison.

I’m obviously VERY UNHAPPY with this sales pitch. And I think most people should be too.

I’m not calling Tim Denning a liar. I’m saying he’s obviously wrong.

It sounds like self-help nonsense

Sure, I can believe anything I want.

  • I believe I can eat six hundred bananas in seven minutes.
  • I believe the world is a giant potato and the cooks of the universe are willing to make fries from it.
  • I believe Captain Obvious will be president of the US one day.

But then reality comes knocking at my door and reminds me to be realistic. Tim Denning, on the other hand, didn’t answer the last time it knocked.

“I believe most people are only 12 months away from $100,000 in the bank.”

Hello, this is reality checking in. Do you know what most means? That was a rhetorical question. There’s no official translation in numbers, but most people would agree it means more than 51%.

So, what you’re saying is that more than 50% of people are only 12 months away from $100,000 in the bank.

Let’s see how this compares to official numbers.

The median wage for workers in the US is $54,132 per year

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median wage for workers in the United States in the second quarter of 2022 was about $1,041 per week or $54,132 per year (assuming 52 weeks of work per year).”

Median means that 50% of workers make less than $54k — per year. In other words, half of the workers in the US make less than half of what Tim Denning is promising. (Yes, I know, almost half).

Let’s also remember the US is a rich country, and the median wage for workers will be lower in almost any other country. For example, it’s much lower in India and China. These two countries together account for one-third of the world’s population.

The world population is 8 billion. The world GDP is $103,867 billion. (Both are estimates for 2022). Assuming an even split — it’s not the case, the average income would be $13,000 per year.

I hope all these people are subscribed to Tim Denning’s newsletter because their life is about to dramatically change for the best (of Tim’s bank account).

One more fun fact (sorry, I can’t resist)

Tim Denning promises $100,000 IN THE BANK.

It implies that ‘most people’ made much more than $100,000 because I assume they paid for food, housing, and other expenses during this miraculous year of Tim Denning’s wisdom that brought them to the magical — and much sought after — 6-figure income.

You have to wonder if all these people did anything but sell courses on magical thinking to other believers. Just asking.

If you want to learn how to make money online, DO THIS

Send money to help me buy a new cape and get nothing in return.

That’s it.

That’s the trick.

Whatever amount you send is the amount you pay to learn the most important lesson of making money online: ‘convincing’ people to give you money.

Some people might call it ‘marketing,’ but in this context, ‘convincing’ usually means ‘manipulating.’

Captain Obvious doesn’t have easy answers to this and other complex problems, meaning he’s not ready to get into politics. Not yet. Follow him for more obvious statements.

Are you wondering if you should subscribe to his substack’s newsletter? => The answer is obvious.
