Three Skin Care Tips From a Tree-hugging Fashionista

Six Word Photo Story: Freestyle

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. That’s it, y’all!

Yesterday, we visited a coffee plantation on the Big Island, Hawaii. The plantation also grew avocados.

One avocado tree was home to a female chameleon — the lady in the lead photo.

“She has two suitors,” our guide told us.

He said the males frequently fought over their lady love. They squared off on a branch, butting heads, and attempting to bite each other. Whoever pushed his rival off the branch was the declared winner. The lady would then allow him to woo her.

Today, the males were nowhere to be seen. And the female ignored us even though we were standing almost directly underneath her. She was entirely taken up with her beauty treatment. With shedding her old skin so it could be replaced with a dewy new layer.

Non-Elastic skin…

Human skin stretches to accommodate growth and change in size.

Not all animals have elastic skin.

Many creatures — including reptiles and arthropods — shed their old skin for a new one as they grow or change in size. Shedding also allows them to replace old or damaged skin cells or scales. It sloughs off parasites such as mites and fleas along with the old skin.

Young chameleons shed more frequently — once in three or four weeks — since they grow consistently in the first year.

Adults shed a few times a year. They might be past their growing phase, but they still need to get rid of dead skin cells.

Exfoliation an’ all.

Here are some stories I enjoyed reading.

Paul Gardner writes, “None of us built a wall.” A sweet story about backyard critters.

David Acaster writes about the serene English countryside:

And here’s some of my stuff: 🌻🌼
