Three Months writing on Medium

Here’s what I learnt and what you can takeaway. Such a good feeling it is — to write on things you like which are interesting!

If someone asks me the reason as to why I write once every few days, it is simply because, writing helps me reach out to people in ways other forms of communication cannot.

I would speak to a hundred people— or let alone be a friendly companion to my small circle of human beings, but there isn’t much that moves me as a person who writes.

It is the best way I find myself to communicate to express my views and thoughts on a range of subject matters, from Politics, Technology, Health, Beliefs to Religion.

The ‘dreaded’ first month

I would describe my first month at Medium as a lost soul in a pool of stories.

I started writing about something I currently involve myself with, being a Business Analyst. With zero knowledge about Medium, I entered the zone. I shared it across my twitter, LinkedIn, and a close group of friends, to get a first hand comment.

Starting from that point in the first month, I wrote stories every weekend. I was utilizing my time over the weekend to write on things that fascinated me, while I was reading articles on Medium to understand the context of stories in different articles.

I was quite fascinated when I was reached by The Innovation for me to be a writer. Little I knew, I was over the moon, this was just the end of my first month on Medium, and I was invited by a Medium publication.

Unbelievable!

5 days in July, with just my first article, I bagged 35 views.

And,

31 days of August only got me only 66 views — with 4 articles.

In total, I had 5 followers in my first month! It was indeed a Yay!

Second Month on Medium

The time was becoming more crucial, as I was focusing on trying to publishing more than an article a week. Many ending under drafts though.

September was better compared to my first official month on Medium, because I entered the Triple-digit views for the first time.

Also, I gained a decent number of followers compared to the number of articles I published at the time.

I was well living with the saying,

“Slow and Steady wins the race”

Another great highlight was, I was accepted to write on Illumination and Illumination-Curated.

Needless to say, I was submitting articles back and forth in all three publications, to get more feedback, and of course traction on the stories.

As a highlight I would say, this month made me realize I should be an “absolute barking man” as Sharon Osbourne said on AGT in 2012, for a surprising dancing performance totally out of the blue.

Here is the interesting part of the story….

October is quite special — The honorable mentions of my first three months on the Mighty Medium.

The anomaly of a growth : July-Oct

On the month of October,

I wrote more than twice the number of stories I have written in my second month.

I feel like a baby elephant lost in the woods…

Just few days back, I introduced my medium account to my Facebook and Instagram friends and followers.

Didn’t I receive praise on my writing. I felt proud!

In Summary,

I have drafted and published stories under the disciplines of Technology, Food, Health, Psychology and Real-life experiences.

What can newbies takeaway?

The best learning from reading and writing on Medium is, more you write about your experiences giving a personal touch, the more traction you create with the community.

This could be experiences faced on a daily-basis, while at work, of someone you know or let alone, something that moves you — like Usain Bolt!

With my first learning, I am planning to narrow-down the domains of the stories, from a range of topics to maximum of two.

Statistics on my writing are not even close to being great — Greatness is a far-cry from my current stand, but just as Joseph Heller said,

“Every writer I know has trouble writing.”

I struggle getting ahead, gaining more traction today, but it will not be my trouble tomorrow.

If you let your struggle make the most out you, you lose. Learn to live and thrive!
