One Month into writing on Medium…. Here’s what I learnt!
It was quite a month.
Yay!
I am a month-old at Medium…
It was exciting though I currently have only 5 followers — Screams from inside!
Needless to say, I would have been just as curious and inquisitive on things I found on Medium.
Why I started writing on Medium?
In my CV or when it is a questionnaire to fill, I always mention that I am a “Passionate Writer” — I damn mean it too!
I have been writing for more than a good 7–8 years, but with neither guidance nor proper resource to work on, the yearn to write was the fuel that kept it running.
I was only a “blind-writer” as I could not find myself to be review and learn from my pitfalls.
You don’t actually feel anything till you give it a go on where you can learn something. That is what I exactly did — and still doing.
I knew I could be a good learner by writing more on the correct platform.
Also,
I wanted to be a part of a global publication-as a writer.
I am looking forward to get the exposure towards writing for a global brand — writing on Medium is just a baby-step to help grow my skills in writing.
I am clearly counting on this for sure.
Topics I started writing on Medium?
I started writing on the field I am currently employed in — Software Development. I am an Associate Business Analyst I wanted my writing to be informative while being a learning.
Till date, I have published five stories.
Averaging just above an article every week. It went well. I had the urge to write while I was learning more on what I could write on.
Read the first article I published here on how a newbie in Business Analysis tries his best to make his early Business Analyst life less miserable.
I knew I needed to have a steady flow for the articles I draft and publish — or so was my thought.
Just by my table, I use the side of my cupboard to take all my random topics I should write on. What comes to mind is just crazy! What I have in my list of topics are such, I need to conduct thorough research on certain topics.
It is plain-sight boring! In fact, I had an idea to write on “How to deal with boredom?” — These days, I am working on it.
Anyhow, I narrowed-down my thought process on what I should write only to Software Development and Life Experiences. ( I actually have listed the articles I have written so far, to the bottom of the document)
How the stats were coming up?
Way too less…
It makes sense, it is just a month into writing on Medium, and I should be doing so many things wrong. With a strong desire to make my writing better,
I started taking courses on writing and editing through Linkedin Learning and Coursera.
In the meantime, how my stats have been for the past few weeks has been,

In Summary,
66 Views,
30 Reads,
and, just 7 Fans!
Needless to say, stats looked dreadful!

Must-have skills for a Business Analyst
Have your say on my articles too!
To the end of August for my write-up Must-have skills for a Business Analyst, the Editor of The Innovation reached me wanting to write on his column too, which I happily accepted!
What I do to improve my writing?
I am constant learner. If there is anything I want to be, It is to be the best at what I do.
I have signed myself up to courses that help me improve my writing, editing, and teach me SEO and related skills.
Hopefully, I am looking towards reaching my goals and aspirations the fastest possible way.
From early days, I have been a lazy reader, not of course newspapers!
But I keep this as a trend to work on my language, and I read more of interesting blogs, news and stories everyday.
What is my immediate next move?
Surely to keep on writing and fine-tune the art I practice.
I am planning to write more on Software development, of course, and life experiences while focusing little towards.
Keep walking down the road others say you can’t. You will find light.
Always be a man on a mission.
Any message for a newbie?
You could be good at neither a specific style of writing nor a domain to write on. Just give it a start. Medium is a good point to start.
