Three 10-Minute Morning Rituals That Helped Me Achieve My Big Goals

Steal them all

After trying various things over the years, I realized why I was failing to achieve bigger goals.

It wasn’t because of a lack of motivation, planning, or taking the right actions.

What I lacked was time management.

I was consuming my time fulfilling a self-seeding checklist, filling up my day with numerous activities that were tedious and time-consuming but didn’t add much value to my bigger goals.

Slowly, I learned that success doesn’t come overnight.

It’s about taking small steps and doing the same thing over and over again, creating consistency and the power of showing up, and helping you do hard things if you hit rock bottom.

That’s when you stop making major overhauls or life-altering decisions.

After reading Atomic Habits 2 years ago, I created a 10-minute tiny routine to build consistency and help me be energized to work towards my goals.

With time, I realized that the morning has all the power to make or break your entire day. It helps you stay focused and consistent, make incremental progress, and motivates you to show up on dull days.

Here are three morning habits that have made a difference in my day:

1/ Saying gratitude:

I used to pick up the phone as soon as I woke up and check my emails and social media profiles, which made me overwhelmed and anxious because there are so many things to do in my day.

This habit of showing gratitude for what I have today, no matter how insignificant or small it looks from the outside, has helped me stay positive.

Some of my favorite gratitude expressions are waking up healthy, having a job I love, and my family.

Sometimes I write them in my notebook or use an app on my phone: 5-minute journal.

2/ Listing down three non-negotiable things I need to accomplish during the day:

This helps me prioritize my activities throughout the day and stay on track. I use all of my willpower to stay focused and on track, and I don’t think about how hard or tedious it’s going to be.

I just plan to show up and do the actual work. As you accomplish these things, you will be reminded of your power and ability to create change in your life.

3/ Staying away from distractions until I achieve the flow state:

Phone or TV are my constant distractions.

I have noticed myself picking up my phone to do something but unconsciously end up scrolling, reading the news, or playing games, and hours of my time just pass away.

To combat this, I now keep my phone away until noon-ish every day unless I have an appointment or waiting for a phone call or text message.

It helps me start my day with productivity, accomplish important stuff, and get into the flow state to do deep and focused work.

Lastly,

I usually try to stay away from distractions for at least 10–15 minutes every day to reconnect with my inner world and retrospect a bit.

I go over my day, certain key things that happened throughout the day, and just listen to myself.

It helps me rationalize, see repetitive patterns in my behavior, and course-correct them.

I learned that we are not afraid of the world, but with our own selves because sometimes we never know why we do certain things or say certain things.

It may be because subconsciously we are wired in a certain way.

It will come to you only when you reconnect with yourself, listen deeply to your inner self, and it will let you know what truly matters to you.

So if you are at crossroads or going through anxiety, sit in silence for 10 minutes, breathe deeply, and use an app like Headspace or Calm for guided meditations.
