Thought-Provoking Prompts on Digital Identities, Alternate Histories, and Utopias
Three prompts for fiction or non-fiction stories

These prompts are part of the publication Prompts Galore. If you want to write a story with one (or several) of these prompts, please head to our guidelines and apply to be a writer. You’ll then be able to submit your draft to the pub.
These prompts are meant to be thought-provoking. Write a fiction or non-fiction story, and enjoy the process!
Keep in mind: expressing your opinion in your story is totally fine, but be respectful of others.
The Digital Self vs. The Real Self
Explore the dichotomy between who people are online and in real life. You could delve into research about the psychological and social impacts of maintaining these separate identities. Or why not write a fiction story about someone living a double life, online and in the real world? It’s up to you!
Alternate Histories
Have you always wanted to rewrite history? This is your chance!
Pick a pivotal moment in history, or something small you learned about in history class, and imagine how altering this moment or historical fact could change the world.
The style of the story is entirely up to you: - If A became B, I think X and Y would have been different - Paul woke up in a room he’d never seen before, something had changed…
Ecological Utopias/Dystopias
Image a future in which we live in an ecological utopia or dystopia. You could even write and submit 2 stories in which you expose your ideas on what our future will look like if we change, or don’t change, something pertaining to the environment.
