This or That in the New Year

“BJ’s This or That New Year’s Challenge”

This was the first image that came up when I typed in “this or that” in Unsplash images. Not sure what it means, exactly.

I saw this challenge from Penelope Mayfield, originally presented by Brett Jenae Tomlin. I hope you visit both of their pages, but not at the cost of forgetting to read my article.

I find it difficult at times to make a decision between two choices. However, I am also competitive and do not want to lose points, so these are my unwavering answers:

1. Resolutions or No Resolutions? NO. If you’re going to make a change, make it now. I decided to reflect on “New Year’s Dissolutions” instead.
2. Mountains or Ocean? I love the ocean and the beach as long as I don’t have to go too far in (you can’t tell what’s lurking down below) or go swimming with sharks (I mean, come on…they’re sharks!).
3. Fiction or Nonfiction? Life is nonfiction; I get enough of that on a daily basis. I read fiction and especially love stories with twists and unexpected endings. That’s also what I love to write.
4. Morning or Night? Night owl right here. Hoot! Hoot!
5. Long or Short? Haha. I’m with Penelope as far as the first thing I thought of. So, umm…yeah, long (but I can deal with short if it’s my only option). Just to be clear, I’m choosing long.
6. Books or Audio Books? Books. I like using bookmarks and getting papercuts.
7. Coffee or Tea? Coffee…with cream and sugar. If it’s not sweet, I just can’t do it. I am, in fact, in a coffee shop as I write this.
8. Reading or Writing? I’m a writer by profession and leisure. Write, write write, right?
9. Handwritten or Typed? I’d like to choose both, but I won’t. I can type much faster, so typed.
10. Sweet or Sarcastic? Oh yeah, I am SO sweet and NEVER sarcastic. I mean, isn’t it just SO sweet and cute to see a hot guy cuddling with his equally sexy partner? I just LOVE seeing that. It doesn’t make me jealous AT ALL.
11. Salt or Pepper? I do not usually like salty snacks (which might be a surprise). I use pepper in most meals I make, so I must choose pepper.
12. Laptop or Desktop? Laptop, I guess. Is a Chromebook considered a laptop? I’ll say yes.
13. Clap or Follow? My hands — I mean, the finger gets SO tired of clapping. It’s just way too much effort to hold my finger in one place for those 50 claps. Following only takes one click. Follow. Click. Done.
14. Funny or Serious? This is a funny question. Hahahaha….
15. Hobby or Career? I made my hobby into my career. I love being able to say that I’m a writer — finally! CAREER!
16. Pen Name or No Pen Name? I think pen names are great — so secretive. I’m thinking about developing one for some gay “romance” novels. What do you think? Any suggestions?
17. Winter or Summer? Oh gosh, summer for sure. Winter at a beach just isn’t any fun. I’d like to know who picks “Mountains” for #2 and yet picks “Summer” for this one. Don’t. Just, don’t you dare.
18. Airplanes or Automobiles? I don’t know much about cars, but I sure don’t like being thousands of feet in the air. If I crash, I’ll take my chances in the automobile.
19. Tonic or Soda? Soda, specifically Pepsi. If I go to a restaurant and they only serve Coke, I will FLIP THAT TABLE OVER! I will scream like a banshee until they go across the street to Taco Bell to get me a Pepsi… Or I’ll just ask for water instead.
20. Sunrise or Sunset? Sunset. I took a picture once of the sunrise on Daytona Beach, Florida and it was lovely….and WAY too early.

Finally, no one I’ve seen has answered the most obvious question:

21. This or That? I’ll take THAT.
