This Month I Earned $29 On Medium. Here’s What I Found Out.
This has been my second month of writing.
I’ll start by showing the following screenshot from my stats dating back from May 15, 2020. I have already written about my first month on Medium and how I earned $8.24.

However, one month later of intense writing I earned the cosmic amount for me of $29. That’s a whopping 251.9% increase!

As you can see from the graph above my article views have been heavily fluctuating. The soaring bars probably indicate that I had published an article during the particular day.
Although during my first month I barely covered my monthly Medium fee with these $8.24, I was extremely happy that my writing had been valuable to some people. Trust me, more than half the readers will stay on your article for no more than 10 seconds before they jump to another one. That’s OK.
It’s enough to know that your article has been fully read by a quarter of all the people that viewed it. These are the loyal readers. Cherish them. Write for them. Pick your niche and don’t stop writing about it. That’s how you’re going to win your audience. Don’t just write for the sake of attracting the biggest possible number of readers. Write for these 25% loyal people.
I have noticed that since I have started replying to the people who write responses in my articles, I create a more personal connection with them. The outcome? When I write a new article they come back and read it, because they have already seen that you truly care for them, and are interested in what they have to say for your work. It’s even better if they gave you constructive feedback, which can be used to make your future articles even better.

This graph shows my top read articles. The biggest earner, explaining the differences between DMT and Ayahuasca, was actually the very first article I wrote on Medium. People are still interested in it, although it’s somewhere at the bottom of my account history. This, for me, shows that every piece of content you write might be valuable. So, build upon it.
I noticed that my readers’ base is mainly focused on psychedelics and mental health, and today that are the main two topics I write about. The thing is that, it’s not only the readers that are interested, but also myself. I am truly passionate about my subject and I research the hell out of it every time.
Another huge factor was acceptance as a writer in the ILLUMINATION publication, by Dr. Mehmet Yildiz. This publication has helped me tremendously in reaching out to more and more passionate readers. So, guys and gals, do your best to be included in a publication. It helps a lot.
Another advice from me to you (not that I know everything about how to get more readers on Medium, or how to earn the biggest amount) is to find your passion, research the hell out of it, and write everything down. Read your story out loud (yes, I do it). Read it again. Edit it. Press publish. Wait for the magic to come.
I was anxious at the beginning of the road. I wanted my stories to reach thousands of people. It was not that much about the money. It was enough for me to know that I could cover my $5 monthly subscription fee. It’s enough to know that a handful of people are truly passionate about the stuff that you write. That’s when you become proud of yourself. Never give up on writing, even if it means that your first couple of stories will have a total of 20 reads.
Thank you for reading.
