This Is Why You Need To Write Daily
Open yourself up And write your heart out
There’s clarity to be gained in speaking words we didn’t know we wanted to say. In giving voice to opinions we have buried for too long. To find confidence in our views and beliefs; to stand by our ideas and think critically. To see the clutter in your head organise itself into a reflection of who you are.
So, go ahead and write.
There’s a predictability to be gained in finding time to write. 400 words or 4000. 40-minute sprints or 4-hour marathons. Structured writing or stream of consciousness flow. In the rising sun, the lazy afternoon and the fading day. In blocking the world out and disappearing into the arena of your mind. In finding the path to increased self-awareness where no win is too small and no problem too big, no thought too insignificant and no feeling too stupid.
So, go ahead and write.
There’s peace to be gained in quieting the inner critic. On creating when you don’t feel you are good enough; when you feel the stars have not aligned yet. On hitting publish before you feel you are ready. In building a routine you hadn’t dared wish for. On winning over inconsistency and not quitting when the going gets rough. Of creating a life outside your wildest imagination.
So, go ahead and write.
There is forever to be gained in creating a record of memories. In documenting your life with its flaws and insecurities. From the exhilarating highs and crushing lows and everything in between. In preserving the little moments in time and reflecting on them in years to come. In trusting the pen and paper and not the fickle memory.
So, go ahead and write.
There’s a wonder to be gained in filling a blank page. In breathing life into a story that had been hidden from you. In finding twists and turns in the creation of your mind. In polishing the draft and seeing it shine in its glory. In educating and entertaining, informing and convincing your voice gets stronger each day.
So, go ahead and write.
There’s a curiosity that’s lost in the everyday of daily living. In the predictable routine of work, love and play. In the difficult times of loss, suffering and separation. In the hard and unpredictable times, no matter how privileged or blessed or lucky you may be. As you make sense of each experience writing validates your feelings.
So, go ahead and write.
There’s validation to be gained in releasing the seemingly insignificant thoughts and simplest of feelings on to a paper. The blank page provides a stage for all your wins, losses and everything in between. In the privacy of your journal and the void of the internet, in the chapters of a book and the prose of poetry, you get to decide what your stage will be.
So, go ahead and write.
There’s courage to be gained in facing the possibility of rejection. In not knowing what will hit and what will be a flop. Of learning to overcome the fear and doubts and letting go of your expectations. In reading the scathing comments and encouraging remarks and choosing to show up another day. Of embracing the growth you know is happening even though you haven’t seen it yet.
So, go ahead and write.
