Boost
This Is Why Many Spiritual Articles Aren’t Getting Boosted
And here’s what we can do to change that

The Two Problems
Spirituality isn’t just some crazy woo-woo niche where people’s heads are stuck in the clouds and they refuse to come down. I dislike that it appears that way.
Spirituality is a highly important niche.
Spirituality enables us to live a more meaningful and fulfilling life while we are still alive. The spirit world awaits us after this life, so spirituality plays a crucial role in preparing us for what lies ahead.
With Medium’s Boost program, many other articles are reaching a wider audience, but spiritual articles are lagging behind and not receiving as much attention as they should.
As a spiritual person/writer and nominator of the Boost program, I would love to see spiritual writers being acknowledged and so I have studied and observed why most spiritual articles fail to reach a wider audience. I found two problems.
The First Problem
As a writer, you may have been taught to avoid using the first-person point of view in your writing and it was good thinking because too much me, me, me can quickly become boring. But when it comes to what’s getting a Boost, things that aren’t first-person essays probably won’t work. Articles that sound like they were written by artificial intelligence will not work either.
Boost reviewers are not looking for us to tell someone else’s story. They are not looking for general advice, self-help, or posts that are meant to market your spiritual business. They are looking for us to tell them how we live our lives, rather than telling readers how they should live theirs. They want relevant experiences and so they are looking for first-person essays.
Using the first-person point of view can be a powerful tool in writing and I didn’t even know this until recently through my studies and observations.
Using examples from my own life to illustrate my points allows me to connect with readers on a more personal level. It shows my readers how the topic has impacted me personally. By sharing your own experiences and insights, you can create a sense of authenticity and credibility that is difficult to achieve when writing in the second or third person.
Don’t be afraid to use “I’s” and “We’s” in addition to the “You’s” and “They’s” in your writing.
Even if you do not have a direct relevant experience with the topic you are writing about, your experience can be as simple as what inspired you to write about the topic.
But be careful.
You are not writing for yourself. You are writing for your readers. When writing a high-quality article from a first-person point of view, your goal is to inform and engage your readers. It is not enough to just write about yourself. Your story must also be constructive.
Your story must make the reader feel that they have grown, leveled up, or reached a new level in their personal or professional lives. Readers must feel like they’ve gained a deeper understanding of the world after reading.
Ideally, they should feel they have gained something from the story.
The Second Problem
Writing about spirituality can be challenging because it is often viewed as a subjective topic that is difficult to quantify or prove. However, there are some strategies that spiritual writers can use to write articles that are taken seriously by the writing industry.
Just like any other topic, it is important to do our research. This can include reading books by reputable spiritual teachers, attending spiritual workshops or retreats, and interviewing experts in the field. By backing up our claims with research and data, we can add credibility to our writing.
It is also important to support your claims with credible sources. This not only adds credibility to your writing but also provides your readers with additional information and resources to learn more about the topic.
By citing sources in your writing, you show your readers that you have done your research and are knowledgeable about the topic.
Join Me in Changing Things Around
I love the spirituality niche so passionately because it helps us live a much more fulfilling life and prepares us for the afterlife.
I would love to see spiritual writers taken seriously in order to make it in the writing industry.
To make that happen, this is what we will do:
Use personal experience to illustrate your points. While it is important to back up your claims with research, personal experience is a powerful tool in spiritual writing.
Even if you are writing about angels, twin flames, the dead, spirit guides, crystals, or 5D consciousness, by sharing your own experiences and insights, you can connect with your readers on a deeper level and show them how your spiritual practices have impacted your own life.
Spiritual writing can get bogged down by terms that are difficult for readers to understand. To write articles that are accessible to a wider audience, use clear and concise language that is easy to understand.
Spiritual writing can sometimes be perceived as “woo-woo” or overly mystical. To write articles that are taken seriously, it is important to be honest and authentic in your writing. This means acknowledging the challenges and struggles of spiritual practices, as well as the benefits.
Steer clear of the love and light only approach to spirituality. Life isn’t all love and light. Acknowledge the fears and the darkness that most of us are navigating through.
And be open-minded.
Spirituality is a vast and complex topic that encompasses many different beliefs and practices. It is important to be open-minded and respectful of different perspectives. This means avoiding dogmatic or rigid thinking and being willing to consider different viewpoints and experiences.
Remember, the most important thing is to write from a place of authenticity and passion and to share your insights and experiences in a way that connects with your readers.
So embrace the first-person point of view and let your unique voice and perspective shine through in your writing.
Many spiritual articles will surely get Boosted that way.
Let’s Partner Up
I would love to partner with spiritual writers and editors of spiritual publications.
If you write a first-person essay about spirituality that you believe deserves a boost because it’s written with relevant experience and has credible sources, you can email it to me at [email protected]. Use the subject “Nominate This Article.”
Your article doesn’t have to be published in my publication for me to nominate it. As long as it’s a spiritual topic or it’s related topics — life, personal growth, memoirs, mindfulness, self-awareness, personal development, relationships, creativity, philosophy, psychology, religion, mental health, etc. — I will be happy to nominate it.
If you are already a writer for my publication, Mystic Minds, and you send an eligible article, then I will automatically nominate it.
With these strategies, I foresee that many spiritual writers are seen and acknowledged for their work, and many spiritual articles get boosted and reach the audience that they deserve to reach.
