It actually works.

You can lose weight with your thoughts alone.

I know it sounds too good to be true and you probably think the title of this article is clickbait. Go ahead, read the article and see for yourself. It could help you achieve your dream figure.

How Hotel Maids Lost Weight By Thought Alone

You are the placebo.

This is the title of the book in which I read about this fascinating study.

The study was conducted by Harvard psychologist Ellen Langer and involved 84 female room attendants who worked in 7 different hotels. During their work, they move quite a lot, for example by walking up and down stairs.

However, most of them did not regard this as physical exercise. Despite their physical work, 67% of participants reported that they did not engage in physical exercise.

After the team of researchers measured the maids’ body fat, waist-to-hip ratio, blood pressure, weight, and body mass index, the maids were divided into two different groups to test whether a change in perceived exercise alone, with no change in actual physical activity, would translate into physical changes.

One group was told how many calories they burned at work and that their work met the US Surgeon General’s definition of an active lifestyle.

The other group was not given any information.

The Results

A month later, the maids were again physically measured.

The results were incredible.

Although the “educated” group did not report any changes in their daily routine, clear physical changes were noted.

They had lost a significant amount of weight, reduced their waist-to-hip ratio, and lowered their blood pressure while nothing changed in the uninformed group.

Langer explains this phenomenon with a kind of placebo effect. Many placebo studies have shown that if we believe in what we are doing, it is usually more effective.

The same applies to exercising. By believing we are doing something good for our health, we reinforce the positive effect.

If that’s not a good enough reason to believe a little more in the effect of your next workout. It could be the way to your dream body!
