Thinking of Life As A Box Of Legos
A solid foundation is where your heart should be.
In our childhood, we all loved to play with Legos. And now, as a grown-up, we probably buy Legos for our kids to develop their creative thinking, imagination, and problem-solving skills through fun and play.
Legos take your time, challenge you, force you to create something, and thus, develop your soft skills (well, if you’re a Simon Sinek fan, then it’s human skills, or whatever you name it). But have you ever thought that our life is, in many ways, very similar to a box of Legos?
Yes, you may have heard in Forrest Gump that life is a box of chocolates, but I think it’s most appropriate if you consider life is a box of Legos. Well, you may ask why you should think that way? Fair enough! Let’s discuss how life is more like Legos and why it’ll benefit us if we start to believe that way.
A Solid Foundation Is Where Your Heart Should Be
Imagine your kid is trying to build a skyscraper with your Legos. But while doing so, if she just puts one Lego after another without creating a solid foundation, the skyscraper will surely fall in no time. Even a gentle kiss of the wind will take the tower down in seconds. But if she builds a solid foundation first, the whole skyscraper will stay strong.
Don’t you think our life is just like that? When we lack the basics for anything, we just miss the foundation and build a castle in the air — and ultimately fail at that work. So the foundation is extremely crucial for anything you do.
Just think about it — if you want to be a good writer but don’t want to read other great writers and are reluctant to gain the art of good writing, how far will you go? Not far, I guess. And it’s true for everything. That’s why for kids, everyone puts so much importance on early years development.
Just like constructing a solid base while creating a castle with Legos, you need to set up a very strong base or foundation for anything you want to pursue in life. Only then can success give you a warm hug and put a smile on your face. Otherwise, you’ll bite the dust.
Your Every Lego Matters
You are just the sum of all your choices and actions taken in the past. Of course, there can be many other factors, but mostly, you (no one else) are responsible for the person you’ve become today.
And who you will be in the next ten years also depends on what life choices you make and your actions. So, your every decision and action matters. Just like every Lego matters while building something with it.
Your Legos are your time, skills, health, passion, dream, virtues, relationships, and so on. And you need to use every one of them wisely to build a meaningful life.
It will be best if you never live in regrets. Instead, you must try to value all the Legos you have in your box and construct your life with imagination, hard work, creativity, positivity, and happiness.
Do not overthink or compare your life with others. Because comparing yourself with what is there in other’s boxes is like committing intellectual suicide. Instead, strive to become a better version of yourself using all the Legos you have in your hand.
Keep the Kid Alive in Your Heart
With time, we become too bored with life. Our age or maturity robs our innocence and kills our capacity to enjoy our life. But look at a child while she plays with Legos! Doesn’t she forget everything else and enjoy the moment she is in? Doesn’t she just play for joy, leaving everything else out of her mind?
Don’t let your age, maturity, job, or responsibilities kill your innocence, for God’s sake. Instead, keep a younger version of you alive in your heart. And don’t lose your capacity to be happy and excited.
Just like a child, while exploring everyday life, be in the moment and find joy and happiness in small things around you. Live your life like a curious kid — not like a grumpy corporate.
To Conclude
Life doesn’t go smoothly all the time. It has its weird way of ups and downs. It is full of troubles, mistakes, and heartbreaks. But if you start seeing life as a box of Legos, you can build a life where things go comparatively smooth where you can have happiness and peace.
Focus on creating a solid base for any endeavor you take, count every Lego you have in your hand, and enjoy the life-construction process like a kid.
