These little Ironies

“ It lies in what you believe — you either believe you can, or you believe you can’t. If you are in the “can” camp, you will do fine. If you’re in the “can’t” camp, you need to take a deeper look.”

Irony as it stands
We all find pieces of our lives ironic. Our choices, events that happen to us, and emotions that we feel. Honestly, my life is the real screen of “isn’t it ironic. and aren’t you happy now?” Decisions dictate the occurrences that happen to us but our emotions lead us like a knife in the heart to that decision. The ironic twist to every decision we make lies in the world around us.
Irony is defined as “ a situation that is strange or funny because things happen in a way that seems the opposite of what you expected” according to the webster dictionary. It happens a lot. Just like the time when I was seven and the blonde blue-eyed princess…decided that life wasn’t for me. (Half the time, I think my genes just wanted to protect me. But then…at the cost of the genetic change…I ended up with lazy eyes…so who knows?)
I’m not going to preach about what irony is but that it exists everywhere. The world’s current karma is a dramatic form of irony I think. When a world consumed by technology is forced into a situation where technology is one of few ways to stay connected...it teaches an ironic lesson.
A glimpse of those eyes, A whisper of that voice, An echo of that smile, A smell of those hair, Suffering faded away, And what an ending it was.-

Our current world
Covid-19 is one of the greatest ironies in the world... Think about it carefully. While the world has been bustling, suffering, crying, growing, and moving into uncharted areas…it was met with a profound problem. Covid 19. A virus that could not simply have a vaccine made on the ready. Great ironies don’t usually come in the form of a pandemic. But when they do…the world forgets what to do on its feet. In an instant, people are forced to deal with each other.
Oh My God, I have to spend twenty-four hours enclosed in a house with my family, pets, roommates, boyfriend/girlfriend, or whomever you live with. (If you were already avoiding home in case of difficult conversations or issues…well jokes on us…we are all trapped now.) We won’t come out of this the same. For sure, some of us will have caved into a darker depression of solidarity, and others will grave human connection like its the air we breathe. But the irony for us right now is that there is no amount of social interwebs that can heal this amount of focused attention, frustration, or issues we all have.
I was happy the way things were but then the world was like Nah, I’ ma mess up humanity. Here I am to punch humanity in the face. Social distancing. Truly, we were all already heading in that direction. Let’s not kid ourselves here. Most of us were either overly social or anti-social with little contact unless its people we can’t escape from. Jokes on us.
Stuck in our plastic black cellphones, books of endless knowledge, shows of distractions, video games for entertainment, and gyms for physical health..we don’t even realize that a lot of our time is spent around not being with people. Social Media kept us glued to our feeds teaching us that we are worth the attention people give us on the internet. We yearn for instant messages and constant contact into feeding our desires for good or bad. We often got engrossed in drama because of social media.
Now…all the social media does is complain about social distancing. Interesting, how tables have turned? Isn’t it a little ironic? The link down below is more information for you in case you want to read up on the virus itself by Shin Jie Yong
Our character is the representation of ourselves, which we wear even after taking off all other social garments.
Kobe Bryant the sign the worse was yet to come
Let’s take a break from Covid-19 and talk about an ironic loss. One that hit not only basketball fans but the world as well. When the iron strikes…it doesn’t strike cold. Kobe is a world rebound Basketball player for the California Lakers. He didn't become famous by sheer luck.
He told the disbelievers, doubters, and the teams who won against him that “ it isn’t over…till it’s over” through his dedication of working harder at shooting the basketball. His influence for not giving up and power of persistence shined in his demeanor. ( I was lucky enough to meet him in person.) His daughter is a sweetheart. But he was a delight to meet in person when I was working at an arcade.
I cried more during the second that I learned of his death than I have now. Some would say it’s heartless of me to not be crying every night. But I got friends, and family fighting on the frontlines too…and others who lost their jobs like me. But a legendary Icon only dies once. We only die once. I can’t cry during Covid-19 because I need to be working on doing good for those that are fighting for us.
Kobe died far too soon, and unexpected. A flash of fire and he was gone. But his death would become overshadowed. Ironic, when an icon leads into a pandemic. Some would even say Kobe was a sign that the worst was yet to come. Jokes on us…the pandemic knocked on our doors right after.
You may not find it ironic…but I do.
Don’t edit your life because of flaws or aging, life isn’t a curse it is a privilege nothings wrong with wanting to be perfect only if you’re willing to fail.

Lastly, I always found our habit to turn to fast food a bit too ironic as a society. We use to have to learn to cook food or struggle to eat frozen dinners until we did achieve our first meal. Now, there is a fast-food restaurant around every corner in a city or a town for the sake of convenience.
Jokes on us. All of this fast food has made it difficult for us to lose weight. Convenience over health. For some, the choice is not so easy. Those who are blind, deaf, or old have a hard time getting around and delivery services or fast food become their option on how to have a meal for the day.
Cheap food is easy food and more affordable. Sadly, our cheap food is all fast food. Ironic in its own way. Right now, people are struggling alone in their homes and all they can do is either cook or have food delivered to them in fear. Ironically, this turn of events means a lot of people are accidentally hurting their own health.
I think our society should invest more time in doing small dinner invites where communities come together and share the food they make together. Maybe for a small price tag or maybe for free. Who knows?
Conclusion
I think this world is full of ironies. These little ironies are what makes the world so interesting and unique. If you can think of more tiny ironies in your life that you see fit sharing…please I implore you to comment.
