There’s Always More to the Story 2

“There is a history in all men’s lives.”- William Shakespeare

I once spoke about the concept of backstories here

The last few weeks have been some of the most challenging of my life. During one of my reflective sessions, I realized we can’t discard our past in a hurry for a better today and tomorrow. Experiences from the past are relevant and help us understand and navigate our present and future.

Sometimes, we wish to erase the past because of horrible, unpleasant, and shameful experiences we might have suffered. We want to discount an incident cos it happened a long time ago. It’s natural. However, if we wish for more completeness and wholeness in our stories, not one told in bits and pieces, with some parts conveniently left out, the complete story must be told. The missing key is usually in the ‘forgotten piece’. If we do not have stories of our own, we can learn from others’ experiences.

So beginning today, are we asking many questions, even those that might sound irrelevant? Do we wish for the back story behind the cover story? Once again, I am reminded of William George Jordan’s words [without knowing the complete story lol] “We know nothing of the trials, sorrows, and temptations of those around us, of pillows wet with sobs, of the life-tragedy that may be hidden behind a smile… Let us not dare to add to the burden of another the pain of our judgment.”
