There is Another Way to Combat Coronavirus
The forgotten science of the immune system.
What if we’re missing an important element of the fight against COVID-19 because of ignorance?
I am not a medical professional, nor do I consider myself an expert on the matter. However, I have lived a healthy lifestyle and I am about to turn 66. My secret, if there is one, is prevention.
I have taken care of my health by strengthening and keeping my immune system strong. It is common sense and backed by the medical community everywhere.
Last week I posted a story on what I know about the immune system and how I take care of it. I also expressed my thoughts on how we can combat COVID-19 by focusing on strengthening our immune system.
This week, I was delighted to find a few stories that share my perspective.
First, let us educate ourselves on what we’re dealing with so we can see why is it as important to focus on boosting and strengthening our immune system as physical distancing.
Most coronavirus-related deaths are due to the immune system going haywire in its response, not damage caused by the virus itself.
Dana G Smith has an excellent article in Elemental, that takes us through how the novel coronavirus causes havoc to our immune system. She quotes medical professionals and people who are experts in the field, yet her explanation is simple and easy to understand.
“Don’t just avoid the virus,” says Amory Lovins. He presents scientific facts, and busts myth surrounding the use of Vitamin C and other misinformation propagated by the media.
Yet amid debates about how quickly and strictly we must keep apart and stay home, this powerful complement to avoiding exposure and treating infection is being largely ignored. We’re striving to keep the virus away from people and cure them if they get sick, but without also strengthening our natural defenses. This is a serious omission, and you can help fix it.
And Finally, Dr. Christine Bradstreet 🌴 talks about the science behind improving your immune system.
Why is no one talking about what you can do to build up your immune system from the inside?
It is an overused cliche, but we are in this together. Let us help each other by bringing awareness to this important aspect of the fight against the common enemy.
As always, thank you for reading, but most importantly, support these exceptional writers and spread the news. There is something we can do about it.
