The Worst Feelings I Have Ever Had So Far

Guess what??? You can’t guess

I don’t know if you have ever experienced having an honest discussion with yourself. I am certain you do! As I did again and again. For example, this week I had a serious yet curious conversation with myself. It was about my feelings. During that moment, I found myself returning to both my best and worst moments.

Now, you may wonder why I only explored the worst and best experiences. Well, I have a quite simple reason to do so. Even simpler than you thought! Like most people, I barely remember the normal moments. If I keep thinking about something, it’s because it was somewhat important to me. Obviously, that’s a bias judgement of my reality, as it should be.

I therefore asked myself repeatedly, “what’s a feeling?” After spending a lot of time gathering knowledge in my head, I came to the conclusion that feelings are the sensory pulsion that allows us to connect with the outside world, or at least our response to it. Since we frequently react reflexively to common stimuli, it stands to reason that we would not be as aware of them as we are of our worst and finest experiences.

What is the difference between worst and best feelings?

“Your emotions are not the real you. They are just the weather patterns in the sky.” — Eckhart Tolle

The phrase “bad feelings” is somewhat ambiguous because what is awful for one person might not be bad for another. Furthermore, depending on the situation, the so-called negative sensations might actually be the most appropriate ones. For instance, while joy is a good feeling, it might not be acceptable during a funeral. Instead, the right feeling is mourning.

Nevertheless, most people would agree that while emotions like joy, hope, enthusiasm, love, compassion, and confidence would be perceived as positive, emotions like anger, frustration, sadness, loneliness, anxiety, resentment, guilt, and jealousy are typically depicted as negative.

As I got to know myself better, I have developed a more complex knowledge of what unpleasant feelings are. I used to believe that sadness and loneliness were the worst feelings I had experienced, however, looking back at my darkest days, I realize that perplexity and the inability to respond are the sentiments that have had the biggest impact on me. I am more adversely affected when I am not aware of what makes me feel awful or have no ability to change it.

My worst feelings

I therefore conclude that the following are my worst emotions:

1. Guilty yet unable to solve the problem I caused;

2. People want to help me yet I’m helpless and unable to accept their support.

3. Being held responsible for a problem I foresaw

4. Making an individual’s or organization’s current issues worse

5. Failing to address a situation that is getting worse

6. Realizing I’ve forgotten something important but not being able to name what it is.

7. Putting others in danger unconsciously

8. Discovering that I misunderstood what I thought I understood

9. Experiencing sadness or distress over something I can’t even articulate

10. Being limited by what I view as pointless external influences

What have been your most negative feelings so far? Do you recognize the recurring patterns that lead to those feelings? In my case, it’s confusion and inability to respond. Can you relate?
