The Woman In The Mirror

Summer Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Shine!”

Striving to be better than myself

“And if you can’t see anything beautiful about yourself, get a better mirror.” — Shane L. Koyczan

Back in 2004, my mom and I watched a TV show about a woman who is a devoted mother, dutiful wife all her life — who has put her ambitions on hold even as she deals with her demanding kids and controlling husband. She decides to go to work and find her own identity. Her supportive mother-in-law gifts her a large mirror, encouraging her to remind herself about her goals and to focus on self-care. And shine.

So my mom, rather emotional, wanted to buy me a mirror. It was a time in our lives when we were going through some tough times. Sadly, we could not afford a big ornate mirror — of the sort my mom fantasized.

However, my husband got me this cute little mirror that I could carry around in my purse. It is a golden shiny cheap made-in-Korea piece, that is priceless to me. I love it, treasure it.

I don’t even have to look in it, just hold it in my hand to feel my family’s love — and I feel an instant boost of encouragement and hope.

Yep, sometimes, the best things in life are . . . things!

Thank you dearest Mary Chang Story Writer for the constant stream of joy I enjoy as I look through my albums. ❤
