Headstand in a Tunnel
Summer Six Word Photo Story Challenge: “Shine!”
Different perspective to see the light.
Sometimes when I get tunnel vision, fall into a negative headspace trap or need to recharge my thinking, I get upside down. As the blood rushes toward my head, it shifts my perspective and forces me to breathe slower and focus on maintaining balance.
When I stand up, my mind is refreshed and I experience a “head-rush high.” I regain clarity of whatever situation I’m dealing with. Practicing headstand and posing in this posture in different scenic locations is one of the ways I practice being the real me and shine. The view is a bonus.
I never thought I would attempt or master a headstand over three years ago when I first embarked on my personal fitness journey, but today — over regular practice and perseverance over a year or so — I can hold a headstand for up to 5 minutes.
Keep believing in yourself and becoming the real you. Be curious, embrace change — even if it scares you. Practice things that light up your brain and work towards your goals. Sometimes the shine is making progress before you see the light.
What’s your “Shine!” story? Can you portray the meaning of Shine!, take a photo of it, and tell a story about your experience in six words? See details and rules below if you’d like to submit a story to participate.
The Summer “Shine” Challenge is open for submissions from July 2 and closes Wed, August 31, 2022 at NOON, PACIFIC STANDARD TIME.
Special thanks to Ellie Jacobson, Sandi Parsons, and Vidya Sury, Collecting Smiles for being editors for the “Shine!” Challenge and for joining me on this journey. We’re looking forward to reading your stories for this beautiful prompt.
