The Weirdest Problems I Face as a Non-Native English Writer
You will also laugh at me for my weird solutions
As a non-native English speaker, You face some problems speaking English fluently, but you also face some issues in writing. So today, I am willing to tell you about some weird issues I face as a non-native English writer. I face many difficulties like grammatical mistakes, sentence structure mistakes, and a drop in my writing speed while writing on Medium.
Usually, a person would take 40 to 60 minutes to write a story. But as a non-native English writer, I take 3 to 4 hours to write one story. Because I think about every word I write. And then search for typos, grammatical mistakes, and many more things in it.
The problems I face in writing a story
As a non-native writer, I think about every word I write to ensure that everyone understands it. But after that, real problems start to appear. I read every paragraph of my story to make sure that all the words are perfectly connected together.
After that, I review it to find out the sentences that break audience rhythm and replace them with other phrases to maintain the reading rhythm. Reading rhythm is very important in a story. If someone is reading the story with a flow and suddenly a word comes which breaks their rhythm. While disturbing the reading experience and makes the readers leave without reading.
You will find it funny, But when I forget a word which I have to write. I sometimes go to Google translate, write it in my native language and translate it into English which helps me find the word I want. Sometimes I translate my whole sentence when I have some doubt about it.
Tools I use as a non-native writer
To avoid all the issues. I use some tools, which make it easy for me to avoid those problems.
QuillBot
I use a website called QuillBot to rephrase my sentences. It can do many things like grammar checking, rephrasing sentences, summarizing a story, etc. Honestly, I hate its summarizing feature. I have tried it once, but it didn’t help. Its grammar checking feature is good, but I don’t use it because I use “Grammarly” But the feature I use the most is the rephrase sentence feature. I use it 100 times when I write my stories. It has helped me a lot as a non-native English writer.
Grammarly
I use Grammarly to find out spelling mistakes, tense problems, and many more things. Grammarly is the most used tool in the writing community. Many writers on Medium use it to make their stories mistake-free because it helps to find out the mistakes that a human eye misses sometimes.
Google Translate
As I have mentioned, I use Google Translate to translate some words or sentences from my native language to English, which makes it easy to find out the words that I forget sometimes.
Last Words
I wrote this story to motivate all non-native and new writers. If any problem comes in your way, find a solution for that, but don’t leave. As you can see, many obstacles are trying to stop me from writing, but I didn’t stop and found the solutions to avoid the problems.
