The Weather Watcher-Looks Like a Rain/Snow Storm For the East, the Deluge Continues in California
Volume 1- Weather Outlook For the Upcoming Martin Luther King Day Weekend
Welcome to Weather Watchers Central, my new publication. My goals with this publication are many. First, I want to write about one of my favorite hobbies, the weather. I have been interested in the weather for over 50 years, starting as a young boy with a weather station, and calls to the “Weather Line” at the local radio station. Long before the days of The Weather Channel. I’m hoping many of my fellow writers will enjoy this publication and also contribute articles as time goes by. Not only is it important to be informed of short-term weather forecasts and issues, but it is much more important to be aware of and to address climate change more now than ever. Let's see what we can accomplish.
Here In Central NY State-A Strange Winter So Far
So far this winter has been strange indeed. With the exception of a few weeks before Christmas and through Christmas weekend when we had seasonably normal temperatures and a nice snow base, about 14 or 15 inches. I was able to cross-country ski a few times and it looked like winter was settling in for the long term.
However, it quickly warmed up before the New Year and it lasted for over a week. The snow is all gone. I even took advantage of the mild weather to install a chimney cap and also do some cement repairs on the chimney. Even more surprising is the fact that I was able to work on a new garden bed. Yes, in January. I think you will be interested in this unique gardening method:
California Troubles
California has been getting hit repeatedly with huge storms from the Pacific Ocean. The Pineapple Express as it's called. Practically the whole state is in a state of emergency as they are receiving huge amounts of rain and mountain snow. Massive flooding and landslides everywhere. We all know they needed rain as California has been plagued by drought, however, the opposite extreme is not helpful.

Following is a precipitation forecast for the country from The National Weather Service for the next week. Just look at the West coast:
