The Ways Cell Phone Technology Benefits Me As A Writer

It makes some things a lot easier than they used to be

I realized when I was lying in bed at 2 am writing a story on my cell phone in the Medium app that I couldn’t do that without technology.

Years ago, I struggled to write down ideas in the middle of the night. I had to get up and go out to the table if I didn’t want to wake Rich up. If I kept a notebook and pen by the bed, I still had to use a flashlight or turn on the lamp.

So many times an idea went by the wayside because it wasn’t worth the effort to do either one and I decided to just roll over and go back to sleep.

That doesn’t happen anymore because of technology.

Writing apps

Because of my cell phone, I can quietly turn on my phone in the middle of the night and open a writing app such as Medium, Journal, Notes, or Word. I don’t have to turn on a light and I don’t have to get up. I keep my sounds on silent so I don’t bother him.

Microphone

I can simply speak into the phone and it will type what I say. I can’t text or type with my thumbs like some people can so it takes me a while to type on a small phone keyboard with just one index finger. Talking into the phone is so much easier.

Camera

The camera feature on my cell phone is one of the most used features on my phone. I don’t have to take pictures with a separate camera, and then find a way to download them to the computer to use them in my articles.

Google and other search engines

I have immediate access to any information I want or need without having to go to a library and look it up. I remember using physical encyclopedias to write reports in school.

It is much easier to be a writer these days with the help of cell phone technology. Leave me a comment and let me know how technology helps you as a writer too.
