The Uncontrollable Wind
a free verse poetry response to Jen Kleinknecht’s never-ending poem prompt “wind”

The wind kicks up, gathering pace Whipping all in its path Gathering strength and pace Blowing through the market place Stirring, upturning, upsetting, Becoming overbearing.
Knocking over bins of rotting meat Fruit and vegetables Releasing a catastrophic stench Bringing protests from all those Unfortunate to be in the way Of this rancid stink.
The wind now dies down to the relief Of those caught in its updraught, A smell so strong some almost puked, All blowing through their noses And mouths to be rid of its gas-tly fumes.
But wait! The wind is kicking up again! Brewing up another storm, Some took to their heels and left the market area, Others stood and protested, The market was not going to leave.
So the wind kicked up again and blew right through The rotten meat, fruit and vegetables Releasing into the air a most rancid reek commonly known as… The Fart!
Thank you Jen Kleinknecht for this windy prompt, it was fun to write. read Jen’s wonderful response to the Never-ending Poem chain here…
