The Unbelievable Health Benefits Of Having Sex
Especially the fifth benefit is incredible…
Almost everyone has the desire for sexual intercourse.
While making love, we experience indescribable sensations. However, sex also has its downsides. Especially if you have sex with many different partners, there is a risk of unwanted pregnancy and infection with various sexually transmitted diseases.
However, leaving aside these risks, it can be said that sex is very healthy.
This article will present you the health benefits that having sex offers.
1. Sex As Exercise
Sex can definitely be considered a proper workout, which is why it can help you get rid of excess pounds and stay fit.
As this study proves, the calorie consumption during lovemaking is not insignificant:
The study involved 21 heterosexual couples in which energy expenditure was measured both during a 30-minute exercise session and during sex.
During training, men burned an average of 276 kcal (9.2 kcal/min) while women burned an average of 213 kcal (7.1 kcal/min). Sex, on the other hand, resulted in the following average numbers: 69.1 kcal for women and 101 kcal for men.
One striking result that the study came to was that in individual cases even more can be burned during sex than during exercise.
The leaders of the study concluded:
The present study indicates that energy expenditure during sexual activity appears to be approximately 85 kCal or 3.6 kCal/min and seems to be performed at a moderate intensity (5.8 METS) in young healthy men and women. These results suggest that sexual activity may potentially be considered, at times, as a significant exercise.
2. Improved Sleep Quality
You probably know the feeling after good sex. Moments ago you were still fully awake and now, a few minutes later, you could fall asleep right away.
This is because during sex, and especially during orgasm, the so-called love hormone oxytocin is released. Endorphins are also released, completing the fatiguing combination of hormones.
3. A Boost For The Immune System
As this study of 112 college students shows, regular sex is good for the immune system. The participants were divided into four different categories. One group had no sex, one had sex infrequently, one had sex frequently and one had sex very frequently.
A saliva sample was used to measure levels of immunoglobin A, an antibody that protects the body against disease-causing pathogens.
It was found that those participants who had sex very frequently had significantly more immunoglobin A than the other participants.
4. Sex Makes You Age More Slowly.
Staying sexually active will keep you looking young and even live longer. This has been proven by studies.
Longevity
One study tracked 918 men, aged 45 to 59 years at the start of the study, over a 10-year period. After this period, the men who had regular orgasms showed a 50% lower mortality rate than those who were not sexually active. Other studies also confirmed this connection.
Aging
A 1998 study by Weeks & James came to the following conclusion regarding the influence of sex on youthfulness.
A study conducted over 10 years and involving more than 3,500 European and American women and men examined various factors associated with youthful appearance. A panel of judges viewed the participants through a one-way mirror and then guessed the age of each subject. Those women and men whose age was regularly underestimated by seven to 12 years were labeled “superyoung.” Among these “superyoung” people, one of the strongest correlates of youthful appearance was an active sex life. On average, “superyoung” participants reported engaging in sexual intercourse three times a week in comparison with the control group’s average of twice a week. The “superyoung” were also found to be comfortable and confident regarding their sexual identity.- Source
5. Positive Effects On Your Mental Health
As studies show, sex plays an important role in our mental health. One study showed a clear link between sex and satisfaction with one’s mental health. Masturbation, on the other hand, probably has the opposite effect.
In a large representative sample of the Swedish population, PVI frequency was a significant predictor of both men’s and women’s greater satisfaction with their mental health 11. In contrast, masturbation was inversely associated with mental health satisfaction in the multivariate analyses that controlled for other sexual behavior frequencies, and partnered sexual behaviors other than PVI were uncorrelated with mental health satisfaction. Note on the quote: PVI stands for penile-vaginal- intercourse.
Furthermore, Healthline mentions the following additional positive effects:
increased levels of trust, intimacy, and love in your relationships
improved ability to perceive, identify, and express emotions
lessened use of your immature psychological defense mechanism, or the mental processes to reduce distress from emotional conflict
Summary:
Sex is not only incredibly fun, but also offers numerous health benefits. These are among others:
- The high calorie consumption during sex makes lovemaking into a workout.
- Sex promotes good sleep.
- It boosts your immune system.
- Longevity and slower aging.
- Sex has incredible effects on your mental health.
