The U.S. Still The Most Breached Country in Q3

Earlier this year, I had reported that the United States (U.S.) was the most breached country. Once again the U.S. has suffered the most data breaches of any country.
According to a new study by Surfshark, the U.S. had the most leaked accounts in the third quarter for 2023. In addition, it suffered exactly 8.1 million accounts leaked, which is a total of 26%.

Here are the next four countries ranked by the amount of accounts breached:
- Russia 7.1 million
- France 1.6 million
- China 1.5 million
- Mexico 1.2 million
Around the world 31.5 million accounts were compromised in this third quarter. In other words, 4 accounts are breached every second.
“The third quarter of 2023 shows a general decrease in data breach count. Yet every minute, over 240 online accounts were compromised globally, exposing sensitive information to malicious actors,” says Agneska Sablovskaja, Lead Researcher at Surfshark. “We recommend a vigilant approach by maintaining accounts only on actively used platforms and implementing two-factor authentication for enhanced security.”
Overall The Number Of Data Breaches Decreased
Compared to previous post, the U.S had 49.8 million accounts breached. The number decreased to a total of 8.1 million, which is a 84% drop. Definitely great news for organizations, businesses and individuals.
The US had 8.1M leaked accounts, or one leaked account per second (84% less compared to the previous quarter).
The world saw a 76% decrease in accounts breached worldwide in the second quarter.
