How Do You Make Money On Medium?

If you’re anything like me you’re completely confused about the Medium algorithm. It's a true mystery.

But I’ve got one thing figured out.

If you want to make money on Medium, you have to write about… MAKING MONEY. 💰💵💲🤑

I’ve been on Medium for a while now, and started writing consistently in December- thanks to a Medium Challenge from Mark, but I’m not even making my Medium membership every month. 😟😔😢

Yes, I’m new to the Make Money Online business but for some reason, you think you’ll just quickly make a buck as soon as you buckle down and get focused.

Sadly, I’m lightyears away from my goal of being able to cover the school tuition of my two elementary school kids. (Here in Puerto Rico, the public school system is broken and my kids don’t speak Spanish, so for us, it’s not possible to go the free education route.)

Even still, I love Medium. I look forward to searching for amazing content and reading other people's thoughts and opinions on Medium. (Medium stalker? Maybe)

My husband reads Google News on his phone, I read Medium on mine.

Why Write About Making Money on Medium?

I quickly recognized who was gaining money and followers on Medium, but I didn’t want to give in to the trend. Writing about making money is not something that I’m passionate about.

Skincare is my passion.

My aim in writing on Medium is to educate people on the fundamentals of skincare. I faced challenges as a teenager due to acne, and I started incorporating anti-aging products much later than I should have. So I reasoned that others would benefit from simple, actionable tips on buying and applying skincare products and learning the “whys” of the skincare world.

But the medium algorithms broke me. Here I am, writing about Making Money on Medium.

Let me give you some stats

Here are three experts who got in the Medium game much later than I did, but have 10 times the followers that I have.

Keep in mind they all write about making money online.

Me- 400+ followers with a goal to reach 1,000 by the end of this month… sigh.

My Advice to Make Money on Medium?

Write about making money online. Increased your followers? Talk about it. Screenshot your stats. Tell us your earnings. Then follow these 3 steps:

1. Write Consistently.

Make a schedule. Stay up late. Whatever it takes to get a few articles out a week.

2. Engage Constantly.

People love to see others enjoying their hard work. Do you like a story? Comment on it, and clap for it. Do you love the story? Clap 50 times to help Medium recognize it, comment, and highlight it. In return, I bet the author will come to check out your hard work too.

3. Write Quality Content.

Quality over Quantity. Provide value. Ask yourself, “What have I experienced that will help my readers?”
