The Trusty Gardener-It’s Heirloom Tomato Time!
Finally, It’s Time to Enjoy Garden Fresh Tomatoes!

Welcome back, fellow gardeners. It’s been a while since my last post. It continues to be a hot, dry summer. The garden is doing well; however, it has been hard to keep up with watering. At this point of the gardening season, it is sometimes hard to keep up the enthusiasm for gardening. That and summer vacations usually translate to garden neglect. Don’t get me wrong, I still love gardening, even this time of the year. The best part about August is the harvesting of many veggies, a great reward for all of the hard work. As Fall approaches, I will regain enthusiasm and perhaps plant some cool weather crops such as lettuce, radishes, and more.
The tomatoes are just starting to ripen. So far, I've probably only picked 6 or 8, with the exception of the Matt’s Wild Cherry variety, those delicious tiny, sweet gems. They are by far the best tiny tomatoes I have ever tasted. The only drawback with these is you have to pick the whole stem and leave them attached until you use them. Otherwise, they are very delicate and with not keep as long if you remove them from the stem right away.

For information on the varieties I planted, I wrote several articles The first highlighted the first 4 varieties:
The second article, which covered the other 4 varieties, was written on Ko-fi.
So far, in addition to Matt’s Wild Cherry, I have harvested Pink Berkely Tie-Dye and Hybrid Early Doll.
Although I haven’t taken many photos, I have also been getting quite a few summer squash, peppers, and cucumbers. You will notice above that the peppers and cukes are small, thanks to the quick hands of my granddaughter. I will try to post photos of some normal-sized specimens soon.
The tomatoes have thrived this Summer and there are tons of fruits starting to ripen.

It won’t be long; I am going to have a wonderful tomato harvest! In addition, I will be harvesting potatoes in a few weeks. The vines are dying off, which means it is time to dig! Hopefully, it will be a good harvest. Stay tuned.
