The Superpower of Words
Are you using YOUR superpower to their fullest potential?
A coworker alerted me to the message. “I know you’re not on Facebook and I think you should see this.”
I began to cringe, completely unaware of what was to come.
My heart rate increasing, an uncontrollable response affirming my decision to step away from the platform.
“I want to recognize our paper boys… they are the best, EVER!”
The post continued…
“Mom and dad, you too. I see you. You have a beautiful family.”
My heart filled with respect and gratitude to this kind soul for taking time to broadcast such a message.
And, the kind comments followed:
“I know! They even tucked a Christmas card into our paper in December saying ‘from your paper boys.’”
“They really are the best. Never miss a day and always deliver right to the door.”
After months away from the platform, I shared the post to my feed and included a note:
“Generally, I’ve stepped away from Facebook for the last several months as I found the space to be toxic and negatively impacting my mental health. A coworker alerted me to this post, thinking it might be the boys. They would be right!
With all that is going on in the world, taking a moment to show appreciation and joy really does make a difference.
Sprinkle kindness, like confetti – and do something to make someone else’s day a little brighter. ❤️ ”
I also shared a response on the original post:
“Mom here. What a lovely post and thread. My heart is full and your kind words have been shared with the boys. ❤️
Thank you for seeing how hard the boys are working and for spreading such kindness on their route. We hope the kids are learning about community through this experience (among other lessons); your words exemplify this to be true!
Thank YOU for being a huge part of what our family treasures about [town]. 🙏”
I am extending this message to Medium.
While the writers and readers of Hope * Healing * Humour spread this message daily, I encourage you to amplify the goodness we experience here — to other spaces, if you are not already doing so.
A simple act, such as a kind word, has power to transform someone’s day.
Many readers in this space are writers. Words are your superpower.
How will you use them?

Words are your super power. How will you use them when talking with others AND yourself?
