The Summer of ’72 and I Got Lucky!
One call…that’s all
We needed a song to pump up the vibe The summer had started and we felt alive!
Some music to blast as we splashed in the pool Feeling free from homework and everything school.
It was 1972. I had just turned 13 Dancing and flirting and wanting to be seen.
We were silly like children barely out of our diapers But aware of the changes feeling frisky and hyper.
These were the days of “American Pie” “Benny and the Jets” and “Doctor My Eye.”
Led Zeppelin’s mix of rock, metal and blues As their song title said, left us “Dazed and Confused”
Some tunes were too sad, we felt such a bummer. But Alice Cooper had the cure…”School’s out for the Summer.”
Let’s call the DJ and put in our request So I dialed the radio station we all loved the best.
Then he answered the phone, said “Congrats…You just won!” Won what? I just wanted you to play a cool song.
Well, you’re the 13th caller. Guess it’s your lucky day! Now what was the song you wanted me to play?
I got hooked on contests from that day on and have been on a winning streak ever since. I wrote this story not too long ago to further prove it!
This is a poetry writing prompt from Jonny Masters of Poetry Playground. This prompt is inspired entirely by the number 13, as it is the thirteenth prompt. And fyi…my poem is 100% true!
