I Always Win, Win, Win..

It’s the end of the month and I won that Medium Money! Let me show you how I did it!

But first, a story….

We waited in a long line with other customers who had come to take advantage of all the great deals awaiting them in the new superstore in town. Best Buy was having a grand opening and all the latest electronics and new tech gadgets lined the shiny shelves, just ripe for the picking.

The advertisements said there would be prizes for those who had winning tickets. Free stuff and I’m a sucker for a contest.

A young man stood guard at the door, waiting for the signal to let the anxious crowd enter. He handed out tickets, one by one, preventing a stampede.

We all wanted a ticket so we waited.

As I took my ticket I looked at my husband and said…”I’ll win, you know. I always win.”

When they began calling numbers you could hear the shouts of excitement throughout the store from those holding golden tickets.

Then, as expected, they called my number. I let out my own Woohoo, clapping like I’d just won the lottery.

It was a $50.00 gift certificate which, in Best Buy, didn’t go a long way. That wasn’t the point….I had won.

I looked at my husband and just said..”See? I knew I’d win.”

I was a radio station contest junkie and over the years I won a lap top, a trip to Jamaica, concert tickets, tickets to sporting events and a long list of prizes that, in and of themselves, didn’t amount to a fortune — although one year the radio station sent me a W-4 to file with my taxes because I had won so much that year.

I’m convinced that I was reason they created the rule that stated you weren’t eligible to win a contest if you’d won in the last 30 days.

How did I always win? I didn’t.

I didn’t win way more contests than I entered!

Friends would say..”You’re so lucky! I never win anything” and I’d ask, “do you try?”

You’d be surprised how many said no.

Success on Medium isn’t a guarantee and, in fact, if you compare my earnings to those who have seen financial success on this platform like Eve Arnold or Carl Jeffers or the always positive Emoji King, Martynas Ki aka Strangecash you might wonder why I bother trying.

I chose Medium because it offered me a place to TRY.

I write because I love writing. I show up and I try. My ‘winnings’ aren’t because I’m competing. There is no golden ticket. There’s showing up and trying.

Thank you to those who show up and inspire us. I have a lot to learn but one thing is certain, if I want to be a winner, I must keep trying.
