iPoetry-The Short Place Prompt
The Sublime
A poem

The song of life, chases you and softly wraps you in her warm embrace.
She holds you tight and whispers into your ear, “Stay here, stay with me, there’s more to come, I swear.”
She seduces you with melodies, she kisses you from here to the moon, and, although you already know she’ll have no choice but to, once again, split your heart in two, you take it all in, you gulp it down, you cherish it and beg for more.
You spread life open and become one with her into the night — even if she were to leave right now you would still keep her taste on your tongue and the feeling of her skin on your hands.
No one will be able to say you didn’t set up to devour the gifts love gave to you.
You realize your time on Earth will be painfully short and yet, it belongs to you — as long as life is by your side there’ll be no room for mundane thoughts.
So you go ahead and drown in the sublime, you sink in the ecstasy of holding life in your arms, while she dances and laughs, while she sings her tune of passion and delight even if, at the same time, she keeps on marching to her new home away, so far away, from you.
Written as part of the prompt “It Happened in a Song,” and inspired by Tim Buckley’s Song to the Siren.
