The Strange Man Still Trapped in the 90s
I remember him from my college days, and I still see him about town

I remember a strange guy from my days at college in the 90s. I think he had special needs. Probably some form of autism.
He used to often stand by the door of the canteen. He was fascinated by how the door moved when it opened and closed.
In the many years since college, I have often seen him about town. He walks around listening to music on a CD player. He’s always got big headphones on and is holding the CD player in his hands and the CD case underneath it.
It’s like he’s still stuck in the 90s. It’s like he bought a portable CD player all those years ago and he’s still using it. He’s never upgraded to an MP3 player or used a smartphone to play music.
And as someone mildly autistic myself, there’s something I rather admire about that. He’s stuck in his own world, refusing to be changed by the changing world around him.
I’ve never spoken to him.
I don’t even know his name.
But I always remember him, and seeing him brings a smile to my face.
