The Sphinx, Redux
a poem

I woke up today and the Sphinx called me back and so I returned
this time I hiked a different hike yet as we know all roads lead to the Sphinx
so within an hour there he was rising majestically among the rocks in the desert
long time no see said I he was silent
so I climbed up the hill of rocks in which he reigned and sat beneath him in the sun
I asked him “why?” he stayed silent I asked him “what?” still he was silent
then I remembered this is a problem of mine too many questions and the answer is simply be silent go within surrender to the unknown
so this I did I sat and I sat in the company of the grand Sphinx and then I understood how to communicate with him
he talks in riddles he speaks in rhymes and when you empty your mind of all conditioning you may see what he sees
he showed me the sun he showed me the wind a hawk, soaring birds, twittering new spring buds opening on the piñon tree that offered me shade the smell of juniper fresh in the air an ant crawled on my leg a fly buzzed past me a caterpillar caterpillar’ed through the dusty dirt
solitude and silence offer solace solace is peace peace and healing is what we need
I sat and I Sphinx’ed all day long I thought I’d get hungry for I had no food but my soul was full and I needed nothing
I stayed til it got dark and I bade the Sphinx goodbye like an old friend til next time
and the Sphinx the great Sphinx finally spoke
quite clearly he said
I’ll be right here and I’ll be there for I am everywhere wherever you are because I am endless and timeless limitless and boundless all in nature is this and so my friend are you

Thank you for reading! Here is my first hike to the Sphinx:
