The Smartest Way to Use Your 9–5 to Build Your Personal Brand on Internet
And you don’t need to become a social media zombie to do this

The Back Story:
Two years ago, I wrote a caption for an Instagram post.
One of my friends suggested that it was too good and had the potential to be a blog post.
So, that’s exactly what I did.
I googled the available blogging platforms and found Medium.
I created my profile, turned my caption into a blog post, and published it.
At that time, I had no further intentions.
I wasn’t a writer.
While I love writing in my journals since I was a kid, sharing personal experiences was a big no for me, and even sharing what I knew was somewhat embarrassing to begin with.
And truth to be told, I didn’t know anyone in my life thus far so was writing online or into writing.
Simultaneously, in my full-time job, I was as miserable as I had ever been.
I despised the work I was given.
I have done everything right.
But what was the conclusion?
I never felt satisfied.
I spent several weekends having long hard conversations with myself about how I wasn’t where I should be in life, and each night right before sleeping I feel dreadful.
I challenged myself to break free from this situation.
After a few months, I changed jobs and allowed myself to write one article per week, sharing my experiences and day-to-day struggles.
That’s where things started to change.
Learning the ultimate truth
The thing is, no matter how smart and talented you are, the world often refuses to acknowledge it.
People find joy in putting others down.
In my decade-long career, I have waited years to receive promotions and salary hikes.
It’s not because I wasn’t hardworking or didn’t put in extra hours.
I did everything right.
The most common reasons I have been given are:
- The market isn’t good,
- Another team member has been waiting longer,
- or a colleague needs higher hike to support their families.
I have been told that everyone goes through this, and the only way to survive is to keep doing my work.
Life feels somewhat burdensome when others make you feel like just an average person.
I am certain that many people can relate to my experience, as I hear similar stories from my co-workers, colleagues, and friends.
This seems to be the way things are.
The change in the mindset
Since I posted my first blog, a lot has changed.
The most significant change has been in my mindset.
You don’t have to live in this state of dread forever.
There is another way.
A better way.
The freedom and ability to choose your ideal life.
Over the past two years of writing, I have fallen in love with the process and the joy of creating.
Now, I publish three articles per week.
To be honest, I don’t need to hate or leave my job to do something I love.
That’s where I learned that working part-time as a writer is an option.
Sure, I may not achieve huge success overnight, but I am willing to put in the effort and do the hard work.
Choosing the high road doesn’t mean you have to change drastically and sacrifice everything else.
Great opportunities don’t come when you’re ready.
They come when you back yourself and boldly decide to feel the fear and take action anyway.
You’ll figure it out as you go.
All the best!
