The Shame Of Not Contributing To Publications
I hope that this is my break-through

From the beginning, I only chose to apply for publications if I wanted to contribute actively. This also includes that I have something to say about the topic.
I am always happy if I am accepted to write for a publication. Right away, I start planning stories. Yet, some publications are still waiting for my first story.
I get lost somewhere between the idea, writing the story, overcoming my fears and hitting the publish button.
Often I am scared that my writing skills aren’t good enough for this publication or that I misunderstand what content they will publish.
These fears mix with the growing shame inside me that I don’t contribute valuable content.
When I am part of something, I want to be active. I want to do my part in achieving what this community was brought to life for.
I love the thought behind Reciprocal, yet until today I failed to write even one story. The reason isn’t even that I don’t read stories or I don’t comment. I never felt like I would pick the three write pieces of other writers to share.
So many writers deserve to be mentioned because their words moved me in some form.
I changed my strategy now: It is better to start giving credit to three writers. When I don’t write anything at all, I can’t shout out to anyone. After breaking through this barrier, hopefully, I soon contribute more stories, in which I get to include other articles.
With this, I forgive myself that it took me so long. You never know what it was good for.
I am always thankful to read articles in which other writers open up about their struggles. It shows how we all deal with fears, insecurities, or sometimes the platform itself.
The beloved Yana Bostongirl just recently admitted how she is struggling with motivation or the changes around here, among others.
And I have to admit that for me writing is an effort as well. Just like Lucia Landini shares in this short but beautiful piece.
Luckily, Medium is not only a place to find compassion, but also helpful advice.
Patrick OConnell helps out with seven strategies to create an article out of a small idea.
