The Settled Soul
A poem — The Lark’s poetry competition — runner-up poem

A shimmering wind Bursting with life-form energy Blade disc eyes Rest upon the leaves Giving momentary peace As the east blue sky magnet welcomes us With brilliance And the meeting of the vulnerable thinking heart See natures numbers Counting summer air breezes With ash pockets Lining the weathered grass That stands tall Almost posturing Amongst the million sun rays Invisible Yes But deep in earth crust conversation Warming the wings To protect You and me As we reach out With the fluttering palm hand Accepting the story So much rich mystery And orbital star passion That hits the soul And calmly We turn the page And dust smiles gather As we venture Towards a life of beauty A life Of unknown possibilities

George Odarquaye Lamptey — The Experimental Poet Cator Park, London July 2022
Firstly I must thank Denise Larkin for the prompt and competition on submitting a poem on something you are passionate about. It was not hard for me to think about what it was but in some ways rather cliche to mention it. I could say nature (which it is) but more specifically the greenery and blooms housed within public parks. The process is simple. Find a bench that welcomes you, sit and enjoy the stillness. Feel and watch the shifting wind through the leaves and trees and write.
The Imagery The original image is considered rather simple by many. In fact on my way to the park I stopped off to get a coffee and was told by the barista the park is not much to shout about but I consider it “a gem”. A few trees in this image, side by side, almost posing in some respects.
The second image is the transformation. The words inspired by the original and a fusion with artificial intelligence of the poem and original image gives birth to this. Many times I use the poem with machine learning and artificial intelligence in isolation of an original image, usually bringing more abstract results. For this transformation I worked with the image and poem — you can almost see the the original image coming to life in a new way.
Conclusion It’s amazing what can arise from a prompt and the beauty of poetry is that I feel it transcends boundaries and slightly touches all the senses in a unique way. Enjoy!
