Watch expert, YouTube star, controversial Australian businessman and rail advocate, ArchieLuxury, also known as Paul Pluta, is a man that basks in the glory of media attention and wears his heart on his sleeve (and his Patek Philippe Calatrava on his wrist). His knowledge on watches is superlative, and he is not shy in making his opinions known. ArchieLuxury has millions of views, 60,000+ subscribers, and is a well known presence on YouTube.

Although a former businessman with a profitable IT consultancy, he is now a broken man, a shadow of his former self, scalping and begging for donations online. “Donate immediately,” he implores from his YouTube page. Over the years he has claimed bankruptcy and YouTube to be his sole source of income, and yet only last month, he threatened to leave YouTube altogether due to depression and a declining faith in the ‘YouTube model’.

How did it come to this?

This articles serves as a definitive guide on the life and times of ArchiLuxury, aka. Paul Pluta, and documents his rise and decline in suburban Queensland. Let the myth and tragedy of ArchieLuxury be told and retold for generations to come!

The Fame

Paul Pluta considers himself to be the Pontiff of the watch industry. His fan base is significant. He claims to have a race horse named after him. In fact, he has gone off to make his own movie, about himself naturally.

The Donald of the Watch Industry

First things first — his videos are crude and crass at best. Paul Pluta is the closest thing you can get to Donald Trump in the watch industry. He is loud, he is rude, he is racist and also demeaning to women. These are recurring themes in his videos. Often he talks about his love of Asian women. He has spent a large part of his life selling watches on the grey market from Bangkok, and it was there that he met his second wife. He talks of Asian women like the way he talks about his watches, as petite and delicate objects.

Like Donald Trump, he repeats himself often when he rants. Often one needs to view his YouTube videos at 2x speed, because he’s just constantly saying the same thing.

For those of you who haven’t seen an ArchieLuxury video, you’re in for a treat.

In one of his videos, he admits to “liking Donald Trump”, and believed that Trump did much to help Americans during Covid19.

There are many things one can hate about ArchieLuxury.

A Cry for Help

This is a man that in many ways, defines YouTube. He rants and raves to get attention and views. Over the years, he is defined by these rants, and ultimately consumed by them. Nevertheless, as one gets to know Paul Pluta, through his videos and online presence, one cannot help but stop to feel an ounce of sympathy for a genuine man reaching out for help — crying, and even pleading for help.

Here is a broken man.

This article serves as a guide on the life and times of ArchieLuxury, aka. Paul Pluta, and documents his rise and decline in suburban Queensland. Let the myth of ArchieLuxury be told and retold for generations to come.

Part 1. The Formative Years

Paul Pluta was born into in suburban Queensland to a middle-class family. In his own recount of his formative years:

ArchieLuxury was born on the 23rd of October in 1972. [ …] Archie’s father worked for a leading bank whilst studying economics at Queensland University. Archie had his first feel for luxury when he was in pre-school and was given cashew nuts instead of cheap peanuts by his mother in his lunch box. Archie’s family regularly enjoyed “the better” cuts of beef and Archie came accustomed to the better things in life. Archie’s father obtained a job with Chase Manhattan bank in partnership with National Australia Bank when Paul Keating deregulated the dollar and the financial system. Archie’s father was a Merchant Banker with luxury car, corner office, expensive art work and busty secretary. Archie recalls the car as a Ford Fairmount Ghia (OZP-556) which cost $20,500 in 1983 (an average family car at the time cost about $10,000)

One gets the sense of the type of fellow Paul is.

Paul enrolled in the University of Queensland, however, he never completed his degree. Instead, he started his computer business in the late 80s and early 90s that involved buying and selling computer peripherals. This was called Centenary Computers. It was a relatively successful business. It was during this time that he married his first wife and had two children (and brought a BMW).

Part 2. Bangkok

At some point in the early 2000s, his marriage along with his business must have broken down, because he finds himself in Thailand as an on-line reseller of vintage watches. He admits in one of his videos, that was he did not have a proper work visa to do this, but he did it anyway. He lived alone from a hotel building, and enjoyed the nightlife that Bangkok had to offer. At some point, he met his second wife.

I was employed to build a website and train local office/administration staff to update stock, edit the website and manage sales. The business employed 4 local staff and myself as the manager. Turnover was over US$5 million per year.

At some point in 2004, the business fell apart and he was forced to return back to Queensland, Australia. His first wife, a Ukrainian lady, demanded a divorce. This was a hard period for ArchieLuxury — he lived with his father at a rental property and drove taxis for a living.

Part 3. Political Correctness

At some point in 2006, Paul Pluta got a job working as a desktop IT analyst. He worked for various firms in Brisbane, including government roles at Queensland Health, Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and commercial roles at KBR and Honeywell. Those roles usually did not last long, usually for one year or less.

His last professional job was as an IT support lead at Remondis, a garbage and waste disposal company in 2013. He was laid off when word came out that he was producing video content on the side. As told by Paul in one of his videos, the “women folk” at Remondis was appalled at the way he talked about women on his YouTube channel. He was promptly let go.

Subsequently, it became very difficult for Paul to land another professional role, as his presence online was getting “too big”. Potential employers would Google search Paul Pluta and see all those politically incorrect watch review videos. It was then that Paul was forced to become a full time “YouTube celebrity”.

On his LinkedIn page, he claims his YouTube topics largely involves:

My topic range is extremely diverse and covers a range of modern issues including:- • Luxury Wrist Watches (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre) • Luxury Goods (think expensive jewellery, diamonds, accessories) • Louis Vuitton items including luggage • Luxury Travel • The IT Industry • DSLR Photography • The IT (Information Technology) Industry • Western World Issues

What is “Western World Issues”? And how is he qualified to discuss it?

Part 4. The Japanese obsession and escort services

Archieluxury is a big fan of Japanese women. He makes this clear in many of his videos. At one point, he even had a Japanese wife. His alter ego is Hiromi Kirishima — another reference to his penchant for Japan. He uses this for his email. He has registered 24 domains under that name, mostly with netregistry.com.au.

Hiromi Kirishima is a fictional manga character, thus we can safely conclude he is a manga fan.

At some point in his life, Paul acted as a male escort for older Asian women, including a 50 year old Japanese virgin. This was revealed in one of his “confession” videos.

Part 5. Rail Advocate

Furthermore, he has become an outspoken rail advocate. He claims to have reached an epiphany after returning back from Japan, a country with a superbly efficient rail system.

Mr Pluta, who never worked for Queensland Rail, has been an outspoken critic of the rail operator, and has previously spoken about leaking information obtained from sources.

“I don’t work for Queensland Rail so I can leak what I like,” he told Fairfax Media in December 2016.

Mr Pluta previously made headlines after he obtained a report prepared by consultants Indec, which warned of train crew shortage in a draft report in January 2016, well-ahead of rolling cancellations which began in October 2016.

During this rail advocacy period, Paul generated a lot of press coverage in Brisbane. He basked in the media coverage and likes to repeat this in his YouTube videos.

Part 6. The Mimi-T Experiment

In 2019, Paul employed a young Japanese-Taiwanese vlogger from Brisbane named Mia or “Mimi-T”. They collaborated on a few videos together, but subsequently “broke-off”. Paul claims to have fired her in one of his videos.

Given Paul, at this point, was single, it is probably not hard to see what his motives where. Paul claims to have funded Mimi-T’s living expenses, paid for her cigarettes, and even paid for her dental work!

According to Paul, she wasn’t making videos fast enough for his liking. At some point after “firing” Mimi-T, Paul uploads this bizarre video about finding Mimi-T’s replacement. This has yet to materialize.

Part 7. Other facts or “non-facts” about ArchieLuxury

  • His name comes from a time where he frequently used online dating sites. His used the named “ArchieLuxury” for his dating profile.
  • Some have speculated that he was involved in a Malaysian online retailer known as “ArchiLuxury”. There is no evidence to suggest he is involved in this business.
  • He is well known for his “horns” on the side of his head. This is quite disturbing and he should seriously consider seeing a doctor.
  • He has four children. They have randomly appeared on his YouTube channel for unclear reasons.

Conclusions: The Tommy Wiseau of YouTube?

We have documented a truly bizarre fellow from the world of YouTube. Had Tommy Wiseau been born two decades later and in Australia (and somewhat less successful), he’d be Paul Pluta. A truly offensive, troubled, yet unique and genuine internet figure. I leave you with this review by a fellow watch collector.
